This is 'when the kids asked me for my number' moment.
The words were 'Didi, ab dobara kab aaoge aap? Apna number do na, mummy ke phone se apko call kia karenge.'
They have asked me to come back in July as it's Shivani's birthday in July and they want me to be present in the celebration.
Shangarh was a place recommended by a friend I'd met in Ladakh. I never knew it would turn out to be such an amazing experience.
The day I had reached, it had snowed entirely and the road to reach my hostel was closed. I had to walk for 3-4 kms in the snow to reach there and I was already frustrated. Snow looks all cool in the pictures, but its very difficult to walk and live in snow.
That evening, I happened to take a walk around and that was when I met these kids. They were running and playing hide and seek, and I happened to interact with one of the kids for the directions. Then, they asked me to play with them.
My daily routine in Shangarh was: go to the kid's house in the afternoon and then play along with them.
One day, I couldn't go because of too much work load and they started calling me 'chasmish didi, chashmish didi aa jao'. They didn't remember my name, so every one would call me 'chashmish didi' 😅 But before leaving, I took a small test by asking my name from everyone, most of them remembered. For some, I was 'Himanj' and not 'Heena' 😅😅😂😂
In Kasar Devi, an aunty waits for me to come back. In Shangarh, some kids are waiting for me to come back. And my promise to come back! Traveling is ecstatic...it makes you go to a place and live with people who make you feel home. The search for this home will never end!
