Day 1

Peace is a state of mind and for some, the tranquility comes far from concrete jungle, a creation of nature which doesn't have an end, its noise never brings you headache. To continue my love affair with sea and beaches, this year I set my date with an exotic island in the South China Sea that silently appreciates the waves known as " The Perhentian".

Located at North Eastern part of Malaysia, it comprises of two islands, Perhentian Besar ( the bigger one) and Perhentian Kecil (the smaller one).

The most comfortable way to reach there is to fly from Kuala Lumpur to Kuta Bharu or Kuala Terengganu which will not cost you more than an hour. The next 1 .5 hours of journey to Kota Besut has to be covered roadways ,one may opt either a bus or a cab. This will be followed by a 40 minutes ferry ride to the island.

Kecil is more popular with people on budget trip and bag packers while honeymooners can opt for Besar to enjoy their stay in the luxurious resorts.

July being the peak season, the best time to visit this place is from March to November, . Avoid going there during the monsoons and if you want a good deal, end of February is not a bad option either.

The little paradise greets you with its pristine white sand beaches, turquoise blue water and mesmerising landscapes as far as your eyes can travel. It's fascinating to go around the places and the absence of modern mode of transport just enhances the sense of stepping back in time. Water taxi is the only mode of transport one can avail.

Perhentian has so much to offer to its tourists in the form of snorkeling,  scuba diving, kayaking or swimming in the clear blue water. One has the option of going for a hike in the forests to witness the glimpse of rare birds and wildlife as well or take a stroll on the powdery sand beaches.

The evening at Perhentian wears a congenial environment where one can witness the amazing sunset while sipping on their favourite drink, experience an open air movie time and enjoy the Perhentian delicacies followed by some party on the beach.

Unlike other Malaysian islands viz Langkawi or Penang, I would consider Perhentian for being less crowded and a virgin island for it's tranquility and rapport with nature.

I experienced the best island life here by relaxing on the delicate sand fringes, gazing at the starry night sky, going for a movie night and having a cande light dinner on the beach, witnessing the amazing under water lives in the form of colourful fishes, sharks, turtles and corals and watching the best ever sunset of my life. I have the gumption that you would not feel like leaving the place and it would definitely sweep you off your feet with its grace. Whether you are a relaxed person or a party animal, you will definitely find a place with your vibe. This magnificent offbeat island definitely has my heart and although my bucket list is quite long, l would surely go back there for my share of solace and that too because it didn't make a hole in my pocket!
