Refreshing Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary

Tripoto
19th Nov 2019

It was a breezy Monday and the weather was so good that it felt like something needs to be accomplished today. It was November and it was the last month of birds nesting at a particular place, as i was in Mysore , The first thing that came to my mind with an intersection of Birds and Mysore is none other than the Ranganathittu bird Sanctuary. So we decided to pay the sanctuary a visit the next day itself (i.e Tuesday).

The sanctuary opens at 9:00 a.m, so we had breakfast at Mysore and started out journey at around 8:30 a.m. Its just a 40 mins journey from Mysore, if you don't have a car then either you can rent the taxi's, or you could just take a bus destined towards Srirangapattana and get down at the sanctuary. There are tons of private and Government buses from Mysore, so reaching the place shouldn't be a problem.

The entry fees for Indian adults is 50 rs and for a child its 25 rs, if you are a foreigner, then hard luck, you need to pay a 300 bucks just to enter the park. There is also a parking fees if you have taken your own vehicle, It was 30 rs for us as we had taken a car. We entered the park and saw a lot people rushing towards the boating center, We were as excited as them as we had a notion that we were in for a treat. But all we could find was a couple of duck species, Parrots and crows and swans. We were pretty disappointed as we headed back. there are 6 small islands in the sanctuary and we covered 4 of them. Our fellow passengers were uttering that you wont find anything if you don't find them on the islands. That there was the reason for our disappointment. So we came back to the shore at around 11:30 a.m and we started going around the park for a while, then had lunch at the restaurant situated inside the park. There was a small stream running between the coconut plantation, so we decided to rest there for a while as we had decided to look for birds once again in the evening. Time passed............................................

It was 4 p.m and we just had 2 more hours to leave the sanctuary. We again decided to go in search for birds. I guess we were more than lucky this time, we were greeted by pegions at the entrance of walkway near the lake, once we started walking instead of sighting the mundane birds, we were actually in for a treat. We had the opportunity to capture 5 different species of birds, it was at a distance of 60-70 meters from us, so pardon me f0r the qualtiy, but i tried my best to captue these rare moments. The same has been uploaded below.

Since the Diwali had just ended, the lights were still intact and weren't removed, so below is just a glimpse of how people celebrate the festival here in India, it shows how people give importance even to the minutest of the details.

So that was about all about the day. As far as the cost is concerned, if you are taking a car, then the expenses would be below 900 rs including food and petrol/diesel. if you are taking a public transport, then its gonna be less then 300 rs + A bliss (only if you are lucky) and the best time to visit this place is between May and November.

So do plan a trip and hope not to get disappointed. Cheers !!
