Hill station, Gardens, Churches, Toy Train, Tea Plantation, Wildlife and Cold Weather makes a perfect destination to beat the heat.

You'll find everything at one destination called Ooty in South India. It is in Tamil Nadu state with average temperature of 14 degrees throughout the year. Surrounded by trees and Nilgiri Mountains.

For me personally this is like a weekend getaway from Bangalore in Summer if one can't hit North.

Journey :

I landed in Bangalore early morning by 1 am so decided to go on a road trip till Nandi Hills on bike as I had to catch bus at night for Ooty. It is a 2 hours of journey from Bangalore on road about 70km from main city.

An amazing view of sunrise with bed of clouds from hill top which will cost you for 10 INR of ticket

Journey to Ooty from Bangalore :

Approx 6 hrs of journey from Bangalore for 600 INR in Sleeper bus.

Stay at Ooty :

Day 1

Zostel, Ooty

You can find many OYO rooms in Ooty as it is a tourist spot or any other other hotels/ Homestays at cheaper rate.

For me Zostel was a good deal with a scenic view and just 1 km away from Ooty bus stand and Railway Station.

Toy Train :

This is one of the fascinating thing to do at Ooty. Just the be careful about buying ticket early morning or in advanced. Else you'll have to wait for almost an hour or more which is inevitable.

Ticket is 30 INR per adult for normal class and 40 INR for first class.

Once you reach you'll find people Auto Guys with brochure for tours. Which will be from 600 INR to 2000 INR per auto. You can also hire any 4 wheeler with their rates, also try to bargain.

I covered following points at Coonoor at 550 INR.

Tea Plantation :

You'll find this everywhere in Ooty and Coonoor.

Lambs Rock :

You'll find 4 view points over this place which are covered in this view only.

There are local guides you can hire for 1 km of walk on rocky stairs.

Chocolate Factory :

You can buy chocolates at pretty cheap price here and they do taste quite good.

Coffee Shop :

Here you can buy different types of Coffee , Tea and Homemade Wine.

Also people will demonstrate how Nilgiri Oil is made.

After this we did head back to Ooty by local transport which was 15 INR per head till Ooty Bus Stand from Coonoor.

You can always try eating food at Fancy Hotels but we could not as time was slipping like sand, also it is tough job to walk for 1 km as it had steep climb or sudden slant which takes us around 20 min.

Things to do at Ooty :

On the next day we decided to head inside Ooty to explore some of it.

Ooty Lake :

15 min walk from Ooty Bus stand.

Avalanche Lake :

This was the place which I found worth watching.

To reach at this place you can take a local bus which leaves at 11.30 am and will take 20 INR per head.

At the forest reserve there is a tour of 2 hours and will cost you 250 INR per head with 3 spots.

Day 2

Upper Bhavani View Point :

Avalanche Lake :

Last local bus to Ooty is at 1.30 pm, (Time is not matching with Safari and Last Bus "I know!")

So to head back to Ooty you can ask the safari driver to drop at Emerald Lake bus stop, you can also ask him to do a detour from Emerald Lake.

This will cost you another 200 INR per head.

This whole journey will cost you a day.

After this we did head back to Zostel and thought of making best of it by hitting another place in Ooty next morning.

Dodabetta is quite known peak at ooty which covers most of it by just one glance.

It is a 15 min trip from Ooty Bus Stand which is 7 INR by one side and per head.

Back to Bangalore :

After this we started out journey back to Bangalore by local bus, but decided to take a break at Mysore. Bus Fare : 150 INR

Now at Mysore there is Mysore Palace, a man made beauty worth watching.

Mysore Palace :

From Mysore Bus stand you can get a non stop local bus to Bangalore for 150 INR which will drop you at Satellite Bus Stand within 3 hours.

Well this was from my journey to Ooty so far.

Have a safe safar!
