The Maldives is open for tourists once more, something that is bound to have been met with much joy from travellers around the world! This is what you should know when planning a trip.

A Safe Destination

The country removed its restrictions on international borders and opened for tourists on 15th July 2020 while putting strict guidelines in place. It has since been awarded the globally recognised Safe Travels Stamp by the World Travel and Tourism Council as well as the Airport Health Accreditation for its Velana International Airport.

Resorts Now Open

During this time, the doors have been opened at private island resorts and luxury hotels. Maldives accommodation providers also offer safe stays for guests; they follow stringent protocols and measures in line with the Ministry of Tourism’s COVID-19 safe tourism guideline, while also being certified for hygiene and safety standards.

Travellers planning to visit should submit a health declaration form online at the Imuga, Maldives Immigration portal (https://imuga.immigration.gov.mv/) within 24 hours of departure. Additionally, they should have a negative PCR test result; this test should have been conducted 96 hours before the time of departure to the Maldives. The Maldives has implemented initiatives to encourage tourists as well. This includes the special Maldives Border Miles loyalty programme which offers three tiers in which tourists who arrive can earn points and gain exclusive benefits. Additionally, the country has started “Allied Inbound”, a COVID-19 insurance policy for tourists as well.
