Here the auto fare is around 50-80 rupees. But if they get to know that you are a tourist they will charge 150 rupees. The reason of staying at old city is to feel the taste of old Jodhpur and spending one night in the Blue city. If you want you can stay at any near by hotels. The Second largest city of Rajasthan has no lack of accommodation..
#Accommodation- We chose to stay at "The Castle View Home Stay" , booked our room by Booking.Com. It's not actually a hotel but you can say it's a "Haveli". You will get double bed room near about at 1000 rupees, hostel beds are also available at 400 rupees. The roof top restaurant is like "Cherry on the top". The roof top restaurant will amazed you with the view of old Jodhpur the lined up blue houses and a glimpse of the great Mahrangarh Fort... Aaahhh! mesmerizing. The foods and accommodation and hospitality of this hotel is all over very good. If you are a solo travellers you can go for their hostel.
#Travel- we had less period of time and had to take more cinematic footages for my vlog.so decided to find out the places. At first we completed a small city tour of small lanes of the blue city.
Why Jodhpur is called blue city?- Some says, Brahmins of the old city chose to differ themselves from other lower cast community so they used to mark their houses as blue colour. And that tradition is still going. Some says to keep their houses cool from burning hot summer they used to do blue colour. All the details are in this video.
After roaming around blue city then we went to visit for "Turji ki Jhalla" . Queen Turji had made this well for all the women of the palace. Where you can see many stairs and amazing artistic sculptures . Then we went for Mahrangarh fort. King of Jodhpur Maharaja Rao had made this fort. This great huge fort is the one of the main attraction of this city.
You have to buy 200 rupees entry fee ticket per person . If you are student there are extra few percent discounts for tickets, so don't forget to carry your "student ID card". And for cameras there will be extra charges. And you will get to see many cannons ,museums and many palace like Sish Mahal, Fool Mahal, Janaja Mahal etc. The video of these palace are also in my vlog.Aslo you will be impressed by some folk singers who are continuously singing at a corner of the fort. That will make you feel an another authentic vibe of Jodhpur. And don't forget to witness the sunset from this fort. And also you can visit Padmasar lake, which is just to the downwards of the fort. And after few steps from the fort you can visit "Jasbant Tada "and "Ghanta ghar" in the market.
Fooding- You can have Jodhpur's special Rajasthani thali, and Dal Bati Churma, but Mirchi bada is the must have snack.
We went there just before Diwali that's why we used to hear an amazing soothing "Vajan Kirtan" Which was straightly coming from a temple, located on the top of the Maharangarh Fort.! And the fireworks🎇 of the whole city was an extra additional view of our trip. And yes if you are staying in the old city then don't forget to witness the Sunrise and Saunset from the behind part of the fort. But be very careful, at early morning so many monkeys will show you thier tactics and let you know about their territory, don't you dare to step into that. 😅.
Transportation- If you want you can book private car or auto as per your rate Approximately, 1200-1500 rupees. We took a scooty rent for 400 rupees per day.you have to pay for petrol differently.
