This plunge waterfall is located just 100 kms from Pune, near Bhira Dam in Raigad district, Maharashtra. The trek to the waterfall which is around 5-6 kms long starts at this dam by TATA. The trail is moderate and clearly embarked by the authorities, so much so, that any guide/help is not needed to undertake this adventurous journey. For the first 45 mins or so, it is a simple walking trail along the dam reservoir along the Sahyadris in the backdrop. Thereafter, the trail pick up the difficulty level by entering through the Andharban forest area, crossing several water streams on the way. The last leg of the trail involves crossing the wooden bridge and a hiking on inclined rocks to leave us right in front of the humongous waterfall. The water falling at high speed between two huge rocks and forming a teal blue colored pond at the base ("kund") is sight to behold. One can just stare at the whole scenery for sometime to catch hold of the breathes after the climb or just dive in the pond at the base to enjoy the pumping water. Clearly, images don't do justice to this beautiful place.
Another lesser known waterfall is Bhagsu Nag Waterfall in Bhagsu Village, approx. 7000 ft above sea level in Mcleodganj, Himachal Pradesh. The waterfall trail starts from the famous Lord Shiva's Bhagsu temple. This 1 km long trail along the majestic mountains has been lined up by several cute cafes. Some famous ones like Shiva Cafe & Peace Cafe are must try spots after completing the trek. All along the trail, one can enjoy breathtaking views of the Kangra Valley before reaching this pristine waterfall. It's a perfect day outing filled with mountain trails, Shiva temple, valley views and insta worthy cafes.
Bhandardhara is a well known picturesque hill station in Sahyadri mountains in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. Something that not many explore in this hill station is this majestic waterfall, located only 7 kms from the main village. Away from all the hustle bustle and typical hill station's commercialization, lies this pristine spot. Interestingly, one can drive up to the falls, park their car/bike, walk 10-20 steps to witness this fall in all it's beauty. There are several temples at the entrance and a bridge to cross over and admire this waterfall from close. Even though monsoon was over by few weeks when I visited, still the water was falling and flowing at great pace. One can easily enjoy day picnic at this spot to make the most of these beautiful surroundings.
