For your Nubra Valley trip, you begin by driving across the world’s highest paved road, Khardung La, at an altitude of 5,602 metres (19,320 feet). For the Indian military, it is vital to keep troops at the Siachen glacier supplied because they are situated close to the India-Pakistan border.
It is situated at an altitude of 3,150 metres above sea level in the Nubra Valley (lower than Leh). The gompa of Diskit is the largest in the region. Relax at Panamik village, where sulphur hot springs offer beneficial therapeutic properties. Then, on the way back to Leh, stop at the beautiful Yarab Tso lake and go to Samstanling monastery in Sumur.
