For your Nubra Valley trip, you begin by driving across the world’s highest paved road, Khardung La, at an altitude of 5,602 metres (19,320 feet). For the Indian military, it is vital to keep troops at the Siachen glacier supplied because they are situated close to the India-Pakistan border.

It is situated at an altitude of 3,150 metres above sea level in the Nubra Valley (lower than Leh). The gompa of Diskit is the largest in the region. The views of the valley are incredible from up here. The Maitreya Buddha Statue is placed on the grounds of the monastery just a few hundred metres distant.

Hunder sand dunes are located around ten kilometres after Diskit, and you may go on a double-humped Bactrian camel ride there. A full day extra allows you to reach Turtuk, a Muslim village approximately 12 kilometres from the border with Pakistan.

Relax at Panamik village, where sulphur hot springs offer beneficial therapeutic properties. Then, on the way back to Leh, stop at the beautiful Yarab Tso lake and go to Samstanling monastery in Sumur.
