We wanted to spend our last Christmas holidays in Germany to visit another good European destination. We wanted to get some sun this time rather than snow ;) Hence we decided to go to Palma. We are not fond of swimming and just wanted to explore and relax and hence it did not matter that water was cold for swimming.
We had rented car and hence it was easy to go around anywhere. With so less tourists, the whole island was ours.
We started our exploration with the famous Drach caves. Located on the east coast of Majorca, specifically in the town of Porto Cristo, these caves are one of the island’s main tourist attractions, and are, without doubt, some of the most remarkable ones on the island, as they have a horizontal extension of about1,200 metres and a maximum depth of 25 m. below ground level, The caves contain a large underground lake, Lake Martel, considered one of the largest underground lakes in the world.
The short music concert by talented musicians inside the cave was very relaxing and short boat ride in the underground lake was interesting.
Then we headed to Cala Marçal beach.Since it was very windy that day, we couldn't spend much time here.
After this, we headed back to Palma to visit Palma aquarium. Interesting display of ocean life, shark vision glass bottom ride were highlights of aquarium visit.
The visit to Cap de Formentor is a highlight on our Mallorca trip, Thrilling drive in the narrow, undulating and winding road to the lighthouse. Hardly we saw 5 cars since it was off season. Quite peaceful if everything goes fine :)
We had light lunch at the lighthouse cafeteria before heading back to town on adventurous road again but this time with more confidence;)
Rest of the day we enjoyed relaxing at near by beach.
With the confidence gained on previous day, we decided to go on an another thrilling road drive.
Sa Calobra is a stunning set of two beaches tucked in among steep rocky cliffs and divided by the Torrent de Pareis (river gorge), on the northwest coast of the island. Sa Calobra is rather difficult to reach but the scenery around it is so breathtaking that it has become one of the most popular beaches to visit. Located off the main route that runs through the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, the journey to Sa Calobra is as much a part of the day’s adventure as the beach itself.
After parking the car, we had to walk roughly 300m accessed by narrow dimly lit tunnels but it is worth the slow walking to emerge at the other end which opens out to reveal a hidden beach surrounded by mountains with a view out to sea.
Drive in the mountain, breathtaking stunning view at every bend and at the end relaxing with the sounds of ocean, what more to ask for in the holidays:)
Tip: If you have some driving experience in hilly regions, don't get scared of different reviews in internet. Just put the location on the map and drive. It's awesome!!!
Day to explore some pretty villages and town of Mallorca.
Fornalutx, at the top of the Soller Valley and deep within the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, calls itself the prettiest village in Spain and it's hard to disagree!
Again a village steeped in old-world charm, Valldemossa lies in an idyllic valley in the midst of the Tramuntana mountains. Its ancient blonde stone houses contrast vividly against the surrounding green forests of olive, oak and almond trees, and the blue sky above.
Relaxing day with only a beach to visit since most of the places were closed for Christmas.
The apartment we had booked itself has sea views and perfect to end the day :)
Mondragó Natural Park offers a diverse landscape and many trails that invite you to explore and appreciate its rich ecosystem. There are different itineraries, among which you can choose from four possible routes that will bring you closer to the most typical and characteristic elements of traditional Majorcan architecture.
ITINERARY OF THE VIEWPOINT OF SES FONTS DE N'ALIS. This route goes from the Ses Fonts de n'Alis car park to the beach of the same name and crosses the forest of wild olive and pine trees bordering the Park's saltwater pond. This route includes a visit to the Mirador de sa Font de n'Alis, from where you can see the union of two torrents and one of the last wetlands in this area of Mallorca. Although the most relevant part of this route is the abundant fauna and flora that you will find.
- ITINERARY OF THE TRIP BACK FROM SA GUÀRDIA D'EN GARROT. This is a circular route starting from Caló d'en Garrot, just to the left of the beach of Ses Fonts de n'Alis. The most outstanding features of this route are its viewpoints (you will find up to 3) and the small Caló des Borgit cove.
We did above two routes. Walking in nature is always fun and refreshing and here you have the ocean view as well.
Ending the blog with below quote :) :)
