We reached Mysore on 15th August evening. Our hotel manager told us that you must go to palace right now. Palace is illuminated with 97000 electric bulbs on Sundays, national holidays and dassehra festival from 7 PM to 7.45 PM. And as it was Sunday and 15th August we soon went to the palace. Palace is illuminated and really it was a fabulous and never forgettable experience. If possible one must visit the palace when it is illuminated.
On 16th August 2021 morning at 10 we went to visit Mysore Palace which is just 2km away from our Sunshine lodge. Rs.70/- is entry ticket. We went by auto rickshaw for Rs. 60/-
Mysore Palace is one of the most famous tourist attractions in India. It is said that the old palace was constructed using wood and was burnt ablaze. The current palace is made up of stone, bricks and wood. The current structure was constructed between 1897-1912.
Mysore Palace is a historical palace and is one of the grandest and most incredible buildings in India was then the royal residence (house) of Wadiyar (king) family. The palace is surrounded by a large garden. It took us 2 hours to visit the palace.yYou can take photos and videos inside the palace. To enter the palace, you have to remove your shoes as they are not allowed inside.
In Mysore Palace there is Durbar Hall, Reception hall, the Ambavilasa room, the royal howdah (elephant seat made with 84kg of gold), the Kalyana Mantapa (marriage hall), a portrait's gallery, silver chairs, royal elephant's ornaments, gifts and invitations received to King and his family as well as many items are on display.
When you step inside each hall it feels like you’re in a glamorous world with delicate carvings, paintings and an abundance of silver and gold.
We hired a autorickshaw from palace whose driver committed us to take to Chamundeshwari temple, Nandi, view point, wax museum and then drop to hotel in just Rs. 400/-
First he took us to Chamundeshwari temple which is on Chamunda hill. Cars and autos are allowed upto the paid parking near the temple. It is a traditional Hindu temple at the height of 1000 ft. Chamundeshwari temple is named after Goddess Durga and considered as one of the Maha Shaktipeeths. Temple is closed between 2PM to 3.30 PM. On the way to temple from parking there is market, there are many more stalls like toys, wooden articles, clothes, pooja saman, accessories etc.
There is monolithic Nandi (Bull) on the way to temple. You can take steps or can go by vehicle. It is an amazing big statue. It has ornate bells and flower designs on the neck. It is said that it is one of three huge stone carved bull statues in the country.
Then auto driver took us to view point. It is a place from where you can see view of the city.
Then we went to Chamundeshwari Celebrity Wax Museum. It is new addition of attraction in Mysore. Entry ticket is Rs.60/- ( I think it should be less). Horrer house and museum combo offer also available at Rs. 100/- There are statues of Narendra Modiji, Ajay Devgan, Rajnikanth, Ravindranath Tagore, Swami Vivekananda, sports persons and many more.
We came back hotel at 4.30 PM.
Next day on 17th August 2021 at 3.30PM we went to visit St.Philomena's Church which was at a walking distance from Sunshine hotel where we stayed.
It is said to be one of the largest churches in India as well as second largest church in Asia, dedicated to Saint Philomena, St. Philomena’s Church is an excellent example of architectural beauty.
Earlier this church is called as the St. Joseph Chavez, which was later changed to its present name was built in 1840. Obviously it is a must visit places in Mysore.
After church we went to explore Vrindavan Garden which is 20Km away from Church.
Vrindavan Garden is spread over 60 acres, it lies adjoining Krishna Raja Sagar dam, built accross the river Kaveri. Entry fee for garden is Rs. 50/- per person. Vehicle entry fee and camera each Rs.100/-
There are too many fountains in the garden but main attraction is synchronised musical fountain and time for it is 7 PM - 8.00 PM on weekdays. There is also a lake in the garden with boating facility. Also you can see well-manicured grass with flowerbeds. It took us 2.30 hours to explore garden. We back to the hotel at 8.45 PM.
