Travelling to Mongolia a few years ago seemed a far away thought to me as I thought of nomads ,barrenness ,harsh climate and the barbarian gengis khaan but the madness of my thought took a whirlwind upside down when I actually landed in ulaanbataar, the hip capital and was swished into a country contrary to what I thought it would be.
Mongolia has more animals than humans ,ratio is like 13:1 and most of them either live in Russia or China . The friendly loves visitors and the land of the blue sky wraps you in sheer hospitality.
I reached ulaanbataar from irkutsk by the famous trans Siberian train and when I landed in the capital my first impressions were "wow this is a happening interesting country .
Strolling the capital ulaanbataar which is easily navigable I noticed Mongolian s love and revere thier founding emperor Genghis khaan as he is spelt as chingiss Khan in Mongolia .
From bank notes to airport to vodka to chocolates all are named after the leader . Genghis khaan resided in the largest empire of the country and all his conquests were genocidal, and blood horror ones but Mongols are a shining example of an Asian democracy .
My favourite sight in ulaanbataar was the 40 meter tall statue of Gengis on horse back all made of titanium , equally impressive was the national history museum of Mongolia and it's interesting presentation from a nomadic Mongolia to a democratic Mongolia .
During a casual walk I stumbled across the monastery museum of choijin lama which was spared destruction during communist rule and this temple was used for ceremonies to ward off evil karma .
Food in Mongolia
Mongolian are big meat eaters as they say the fat keeps them warm at minus 51 degrees in winter .
kumiss which is fermented mare s milk and camel milk are favourites . They actually milk all thier animals including yaks, goats, sheep ,camel and horses .

What to shop
Cashmere probably the best in the world .
Where do I stay
I loved the location of my hotel Best Western as it's close to chingiss square and to a lot of restaurants and sightseeing spots .
About visa
Mongols love indians and they don't make it tough for you to reach thier country . A recent visit by Narender modi strengthened our ties further .

How do I reach from Hyderabad
Fly airchina from Delhi or check out connections from Bangkok or Singapore .
Do check out and add Mongolia on your next exploration ..it's very affordable and a friendly destination .
