The largest Dam in Tamilnadu and one of the largest Dams in India which took 9 years to be fully constructed!

There is a park on the foot of the Dam where people of every age group visit during holidays mostly with friends and family.

There is a bridge called 16 pillar Bridge which has become very old and recently a new bridge was constructed across the river. The new bridge has also now become an attraction for the locals to go for walk in the evening.

This Dam is 120 ft in height and 5600 ft in length. This was built during the British Rule by an Irish engineer, Vincent Hart, who was also the chief engineer of the project. The dam creates Stanley Reservoir for the Hydro-Electric Power Plant.

At the time of its construction, this Dam was one of the world's largest Dams!

As this Dam was constructed, the authorities evacuated the people of Nayambadi and some other villages where the dam was sited. When the water level of the reservoir recedes, even now the old Christian Church of Nayamabadi and some Hindu temples from other villages emerge from it as proof and they can be seen in the place called Pannavadi. Those people who migrated from Nayambadi have settled down in Martalli, Cowdalli and other nearby villages in the Kollegal taluk of Chamarajanagar district of the state of Karnataka. Below is the link to know more about the lost village!
