Tungnath is the highest Shiva temple in the world which is believed to be 1000 years old and is one of the five and the highest Panch Kedar temples located in the mountain range of Tunganath in Rudraprayag disrcit , in the India State of Uttrakhand . The Tunganath literal meaning Lord of the peaks,located at an altitude of 3,680 m (12,073 ft), and just below the peak of Chandrashilla.
Other than being a religious destination, Tungnath is also a well known trekking destination. Their are number of trekking route in that area which we can choose depending upon duration period. My journey start from Rishikesh to rudrarapyag 6 hr drive by bus and then 3 hr from rudraparayag to Ukhimath. From ukhimath to dugalbitta 22 km distance ( 2hr drive ). Mayadeep resort is the good place to stay at dugalbitta and to start your journey.
Trek to Chandrashilla -
Chopta – a small but picturesque hamlet with untouched natural beauty and peace. It is the starting point of the trek to Tungnath.
Tungnath temple – one of the five and the highest Panch Kedar temples located in the mountain range of Tunganath in Rudraprayag district.
Chandrashila summit - It is a short (1km) but rigorous hike to the top from Tungnath btemple .The view from the top is most promising and truly breathtaking something one will surely remember for a lifetime.
