Over the course of our travels, we get to stay in many wondrous places. But once in a blue moon, we come across a place that completely wins us over. Lakshman Sagar resort, in the Pali district of Rajasthan, is one such place.
About Lakshman Sagar resort:
A 19th century hunting lodge, the Lakshman Sagar has been recontextualised into a resort. Built by Lakshman Singh, the then thakur of Raipur, to host other noble families and British emissaries, the Lakshman Sagar resort today stands as a continuation of the hospitality and traditions of the House of Raipur, with a conservationist view of the heritage and surroundings.
Design:
From intricately restoring the machans used for tiger spotting to the man-made lake to attract prey, the historical influences from the days of the British Raj are still very evident in every corner of the Lakshman Sagar resort.
A beautiful amalgamation of Rajasthani design with eco sensibility, the 12 cottages at Lakshman Sagar resort have been carefully planned in a sustainable manner by architects Vasant & Revathi Kamat and designer duo Sahil & Sarthak.
Accommodation:
Nestled amongst 32 acres of rocky hills, the Lakshman Sagar resort offers 12 spacious and extremely private mud and stone cottages.
Divided into two clusters, with six cottages on both side of the lake, every cottage at Lakshman Sagar opens to a private splash pool overlooking the lake.
All the rooms have been perfectly contoured with the surrounding hills; making them similar but not identical to each other. From chairs, to cushion covers, everything used to design the rooms has been sourced locally from the nearby villages.
Dining:
The dining experience at Lakshman Sagar is based on the concept of slow food, an alternative to fast food. The food served strives to preserve the traditional and regional cuisine of Rajasthan.
The food is served in the restored Zanana and Mardana section, two buildings originally built as quarters for women and men respectively. If you wish, can choose to dine privately in your cottage. Other dining options include a dinner near the lake or a visit to Raipur Fort for lunch.
Experiences at Lakshman Sagar:
From local liquor tasting and live cooking to goat herding and vegetable harvesting, guests at Lakshman Sagar are encouraged to connect with the place and create unforgettable memories.
If you're fond of simpler things such as watching the sunset by the dam, kite flying, or simply relaxing by the single rock-cut pool, Lakshman Sagar will not disappoint you.
