so if this is your first trip abroad lets touch on a few basics
1.Book your travel tickets and hotels in advance.cheapest tickets to Malaysia are available from Bhubaneshwar,Kolkata and Kochi.air asia hosts a number of sales through out the year
2.Malaysia has major issues with debit and credit cards, rupay cards do not function smoothly.Keep ample amount of cash or mastercard/visa credit card with you.
3 Travel light -extra baggage is really expensive in a international travel and if by any chance you land with luggage look for an airline which offers you a good deal on extra baggage
4.Always carry a small water bottle with you as there is a limit to drinking water that is offered during the stay at the hotel. It will help you save a few extra bucks
5.Hotels charge a small fee from you as tax which is generally not included in hotel bookings
6.In Langkawi most of the places deal only in cash ,very limited places accept cards.Along with it they have started charging a small amount of deposit which is refundable ,it could be any where around 100MYR (1800RS) and above depending upon the hotel.
6.There is a lot of apprehension about currency exchanges in the ,whether you should exchange at the airport or outside. My personal view is that airports provide excellent exchange rate, but also i would suggest that when you are returning to India ,exchange your currency at the destination airport itself.Do not bring it back to India as the rates are not that good then
Flights
Air Asia hosts a number of budget flights from all over India with the cheapest tickets for Malaysia from Kochi ,Chennai and Bhubaneshwar. Most of the fare that are offered are for CABIN BAGGAGE only so if you wish to take the advantage please travel light and if there is any extra baggage please pre book it on travel portals
The eNTRI visa allows single entry for Indians and is valid for 14 days .It can be easily applied through the travel portal https://www.windowmalaysia.my/evisa/evisa.jsp if you have a credit credit. If not there are plenty of travel portals which can do the same for you for a fee.P.S there are plenty of fake travel portals too so you need to be fully confident about whichever agent you choose.
HOTELS
There are a plethora of hotels that you can choose from for every budget ,for every need and for every area. The most happening part of the town in Kuala Lumpur is BUKIT BINTANG and in Langkawi it is PENTAI CENANG.
PLACES TO VISIT IN LANGKAWI
"Smell the sea and smell the sky let your soul and spirit fly" ,these words are apt to describe langkawi in a few words.A place for pristine white sand beaches ,beautiful roads, and amazing geography .Its one of the most talked about islands and also one of the most visited ones with a bunch of activities one can indulge in.The most visited place is SKYBRIDGE which is synonymus with the island. The only way to reach the bridge is through the cable car which also happens to be the world's most steepest cable. The charges are 53 MYR per person and is a LIFETIME EXPERIENCE.The panoramic views of the ocean and mountains and the forest altogether sums up for the most elevating experience .
P.S.The ride starts from 9.30 am ,the earlier you start the better it is to avoid heat. The temperature soar up during the during the afternoon hours making it very difficult to walk from the station to the sky bridge. Its almost half a day trip so make sure you start early
STAY
Our stay was at a hotel called NADIA'S just a 2 minute walking distance from PANTAI CENANG.CENANG BEACH also happens to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Langkawi. The hotel is very well situated .
Eagle square one of the biggest landmarks and the trip would be incomplete without not seeing it.There is no entry fee and the view is beautiful
TRANSPORT
So we hired a 2 wheeler for around 25 MYR and refundable deposit of 50 MYR for easy commute,if the family is bigger then GRAB cabs are your GO TO BUDDY.Its a south east version of UBER. All you need to do is download the app and you are good to go.All the other cab systems are extremely expensive.
FOOD
NASI GORENG (fried rice and chicken) or noodles and chicken along with sea food is the staple food but along with it there are plenty of outlets which give Arabic and Indian food.
KUALA LUMPUR is a place of eclectic mixes from an excellent nightlife to amazing shopping centers
A lot of INDIANS mostly from the south are settled in KL as a result of which you get some amazing authentic south indian cuisines.Ive personally seen a lot of INDIANS complain that they did not get proper food but i never faced any such issues.
