Khardung La, also known as the 'world's highest motorable road' (a photograph under this signboard is a must) is a popular tourist attraction among experienced bikers and novice travelers alike.

Like all high altitude places, one needs to be well prepared to visit this place. Proper acclimation and a remedy for high altitude sickness are the basic precautions; even then you are advised to stay only for 20 min.

Temperatures hardly reaching 10c in summers, one can be sure to witnesses snow during any time of the year. And because of its accessibility. summer is the tourist season when you might experience traffic congestion, because of actual traffic, not owing to landslides or avalanches, as Khardung La is the most popular and frequently traveled pass.

The adventure of a lifetime to the tourists is livelihood to the locals, who manage the traffic and clear the avalanches.

Even though it's a title to the highest motorable road is debatable now (look for Mana Pass and Semo La) the thrill and happiness that it provides are one of the highest in the world.
