The Junagarh Fort, originally called the Chintamani Fort, is one of the few forts in Rajasthan which is not built on a hilltop. The fort was built in the early 20th century when the royal family moved to the Lalgarh Palace.
The Junagarh Fort is placed centrally and the city of Bikaner has developed around it. The fort complex was built under the supervision of Karan Chand, who served as the Prime Minister of Raja Rai Singh. The fort was built in the period from 1589 to1594 and this is one of the best places to see in Rajasthan.
According to historical records, the fort has withstood several attacks and has never been taken over by any attacker, except Kamran Mirza, who was the second son of Emperor Babur.
