Basohli is a major water sports destination and an offbeat location in Jammu and Kashmir. The Tourism Department of Jammu and Kashmir stated that Basohli will be promoted with heritage and leisure tourism and also roping in adventure tourism.
The Directorate of Tourism of Jammu and Kashmir came together with Bani Basohli Development Authority on the occasion of 'World Environment Day,' at the Tourist Reception Centre Basohli.
Basohli is a major water sports destination in the Jammu region, and now will be promoted forefront for adventure along with leisure and heritage tourism by the Tourism Department, with an aim to promote offbeat tourist destinations and adventure tourism.
The celebrations included a kick start of 'Ecotourism Awareness Rally' by the local school children under the theme of 'Beat Plastic Pollution' the official campaign theme of 'World Environment Day 2023.'
The Awareness Rally was flagged off from Atal Setu Bridge which culminated at TRC Basohli. The festivities were formally inaugurated by Secretary to the Government, Tourism Department, J-K, Syed Abid Rasheed Shah (IAS) along with DDC Chairman Kathua Col. Mahan Singh, by launching a 'Plantation Drive'.
Water sports activities were organized by the department during the event, and the secretary along with his team of senior officers participated in water sports activities like Boating, Jet Skiing, Cruise along with local stakeholders.
Syed Abid Rasheed Shah stated that the Department of Tourism, J-K is committed to promoting Basohli as a major Tourist Destination of J-K. The tourist department wants to put it on the global map with modern-day State of the art facilities and infrastructure. He appealed to all the stakeholders to join hands in collaborative efforts of making it a success.
Many cultural performances by the artists of J-K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages which included folk dance performances, song and music performances were also witnessed on this day. The local artisans of Handloom and Handicraft products displayed their art at the venue under the theme “Humari Kala Humari Pehchann”. A live display of traditional 'charkha' was also presented.
