One such Rajput palace is located only about 11 kilometres from the centre of Jaipur. The sand-coloured walls of Amber Fort fade into the surrounding hillside in a nearly perfect disguise. This was the original capital of Rajasthan before Maharaja Jai Singh II relocated during his reign to the City Palace. Constructed using breathtaking red sandstone and marble, this structure was built roughly 200 years before Jaipur was established. This is arguably the most popular sight in the area surrounding Jaipur, so be prepared to meet people from all over the world.
SukhMandir
SukhMandir is a hall made with sandalwood and ivory. It is located right opposite to the Hall of public audience. There is a small channel that runs through it that carries cold water. This is an ancient method of keeping the place cool. Though the term ‘Mandir’ is used in the name, this is not a temple. It is a hall where kings and queens relax.
The walls and the ceilings in this palace are carved with beautiful flowers and other paintings made with glass. A queen of the fort used to love sleeping under the stars. It is said that ancient custom of the land did not allow women to sleep in open air. King called upon the finest architects in the region to solve the problem. Thus, the mirror palace was built. It is said that if two candles are lit in the palace, it would look like thousands of stars glittering in the ceiling.
after spending quality time,i went to jaigarh fort.Next to Amer Palace is the Jaigarh Fort.
Jaigarh Fort
its next to amber fort, you can reach there by car or auto.otherwise if you love to walk there is a tunnel from amber to jaigarh fort tooks around 30 min 1 km long tunnel.A secret passageway.
took around 1hr for exploring and you need to pay entry fees.
Visiting Time: All days 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Entrance Fee: 85 Per Person for Foreign Tourists and Rs.35 for Indians
It was regarded as an elder brother to the Amber Palace, keeping a watch on the palace and protecting the city from its enemy.
Mostly known as the Fort of Victory this particular fort is constructed to store the weapons and other military utilities. During the rule of Rajputs and Mughals the desert state was a major center of artillery production.
It offers visitors a breath-taking view over the surrounding mountainous landscape.
Ah, well said! Those who love wandering off to new places, hate being trapped by routine.
Nahargarh which is only a KM from Jaigarh.
Nahargarh fort is open from 10 00 AM in the morning to 5 30 PM in the evening. The entry fee for overseas tourists is INR 200 and students are INR 25.
Nahargarh Fort is located around 6 KM outside the city of Jaipur. The best way to reach the destination is to hire a cab. Even autos go till the fort entrance. There are shuttles also available from the foot of the hill. auto rickshaw will charge in between 400 rs to 500rs to and fro.
Nahargarh mean ‘abode of tigers’. Legend says that the fort was named as Nahargarh after the spirt of a Rathore, Nahar Singh.
Nahargarh fort along with Amer Fort and Jaigharh Fort had formed the defense to the then capital.
Nahargarh is located along the Aravalli hills overlooking a beautiful lake. the fort now also is home to the Jaipur wax museum and glass palace(they both are extra chargeable).
after this you can hangout around market or can visit Birla temple.
Day 2 starts
Fair point, well made! A voyager loves the idea of traveling, no matter where to.
Hawa Mahal
Entrance Fee: INR 200 for Foreign Tourists and INR 50 for Indians
Visiting Time: All days 9 00 AM – 4 30 PM
I spent 1 hour there.
Hawa Mahal is a five story building that is situated in the heart of the city of Jaipur. It has a beehive like structure and is made of red and pink sand stone lined with white color to make it vibrant. It is pink like the rest of the pink city of Jaipur.
the romantic pink sandstone fortress cascading over the streets of Jaipur, was originally built in 1799 as a vantage point for the ladies of the royal household. From behind the dark shadowed windows of Hawa Mahal, high above the streets, the women could observe the city below without being observed themselves.
The landmark “honeycomb” facade reaches five stories high and is made up of 152 windows nestled into rounded latticed balconies, exemplifying the strong yet delicate Rajput architecture in all its splendour. When the sun drops down toward the horizon, a small beam of sunlight can sometimes be seen shining through a top story window.
Located just behind the Hawa Mahal is Jaipur’s famous City Palace,
Entrance Fee: INR 500 for Foreign Tourists and INR 190 for Indians
Visiting Time: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Around 2 hour to explore i took.
The city is divided into nine blocks and the royal palace is situated at the center of the city. The capital was shifted from Amer to Jaipur in the 1700s.
It has a sequence of gardens, buildings and courtyards, temple and museum to give it a grand view that reflects its historical importance and magnificent royal grace. Its outer boundary was built by Raja Jai Singh and other structures by his successors to add charm to it. It also served as a residence for former Maharaja of Jaipur.
There is ample transport to the palace. You can either take a cab for local site-seeing or take rickshaws if you want to experience the Indian way of travel.
Albert Hall Museum
Albert Hall Museum near the city centre is home to an industrial arts exhibit. This museum displays artifacts and information on the history of traditional arts and crafts around Jaipur and Rajasthan. It’s goal is to support local traditions and customs, and the people of Jaipur are very proud of this museum. Its architecture even impressed Rudyard Kipling, who wrote of the Albert Hall Museum, “It is now a rebuke to all other museums in India from Calcutta downwards.”
The best trips of one’s life stay close to the heart, always. And the memories are always on the mind, aren’t they?
