Since childhood, I have always loved going shopping with my mom, purchasing fancy things, outfits, and many more. When I was in my teenage, I loved visiting malls, shopping for clothes, and other materialistic things. It gave me joy! I never realized the value of money till I started earning myself.
With the experiences, I have finally cured my Materialism. Being the one who loved shopping, now I can see a huge difference in myself. Can you guess what helped me? The answer is TRAVELLING! As I began to travel, I found more joy in it than buying outfits or other materialistic things.
When Did I Realize That Travelling Has Cured My Materialism?
Recently I went on a trip with my friends. With the excitement of a new destination and its famous pieces, each of my friends purchased many things there. That is when I saw a significant change in myself where I literally didn’t have any interest in spending so much money on buying useless items. Instead, I believed that I should invest it in exploring some other beautiful place. Our experience gives us a clearer understanding of life.
Now, at the age of 23, I have to do a job and earn money to fulfil my needs. Being an adult, I can no longer depend on them for my expenses. With experience, I have found out that rather than spending so much money on materialistic things, it is better to invest in worthy experiences. It is more worthy of investing in wanderlust that gives so many memorable experiences.
What Have I Learnt During My Journey Of Curing Materialism?
When we get used to the things we buy, the excitement and happiness fade away, and items become ordinary. We must repeat the cycle until we find the desire to satisfy the next wish temporarily! Then we are left with only one blank, which is often only a small bag of things, and we eventually throw them away or leave them behind.
