Maldives is a beautiful country and makes for a perfect travel destination when all you need is a couple of days to relax. But, choosing a property here can be very confusing as you have so many to choose from. This blog will take you through some tips and tricks on how to choose the property and essentials that you need to pack for the trip. For more on our stay at Maldives, click here.

Which Property to choose?

About 250 islands in Maldives are inhabitable and most of them are owned by resorts. Island hopping could get very expensive and is a bit impracticable here. So, choose a property that would suit all your requirements the best. You could choose on the basis of the purpose of visit or people you are travelling with. For example, if travelling with family, try and look for kid friendly resort which would have activities for kids to keep them occupied. There are resorts which have dedicated children area where they could make new friends and play with them. A lot of kids friendly activities would be organised here and your child may pick up a skill or so. But whatever you choose make sure you take up an all-inclusive package. As I mentioned island hopping isn’t feasible, so you wouldn’t have any option but to have all your meals in the resort itself. If you don’t go all-inclusive, you would end up spending more money, as a cocktail or may be a meal or some sport and activities, which otherwise would be free, would add up and thus burn a hole in your pocket.

Which Room to choose?

Most properties in Maldives have both over-water villas and beach villas. If you are on a honeymoon, I would suggest you to choose an over-water villa. Its gorgeous set up will make you fall in love with the place, its luxury redefined and you don’t have to leave the room if you don’t want to. The feeling of waking up right on the ocean is an experience in itself. If you are travelling with kids, opt for a beach villa. Kids would love to play around on the beach just outside the room. It would be safer and would give you an opportunity to relax rather than running behind them all the time.

Food

Every resort has an option of 2-3 restaurants with different types of spreads. The buffet usually covers all types of food and has a large variety of vegetarian options as well. So, do not worry if you are a vegetarian or a vegan, Maldives will have you sorted. Inform the hotel about of preferences or allergies (in case you have any), at the time of booking itself.

What to Pack

Essentials for a beach holiday are:

Swim suits

A nice pair of protective sunglasses

Lots of sunscreen

Formal dresses for evenings (all the resorts, usually organize events and parties for their guests and you would definitely want to dress up for it)

Casuals for the day

Slippers

Formal footwears for the evenings

Simple earrings and scarves (as it would be too hot for too much jewellery)

A bag to carry your stuff while exploring the island
