“LIKE ALL GREAT TRAVELLERS, I HAVE SEEN MORE THAN I REMEMBER AND REMEMBER MORE THAN I HAVE SEEN.” ~ BENJAMIN DISRAELI
With travel and tourism becoming more and more common these days, it is important to think of how you can become a responsibile traveller and leave positive footprints everywhere you go.
Being a responsibile traveller is something I have been conscious about in my past three years of travelling and visiting new places. Sustainable tourism is not just about the environmental impacts, but about human impact as well.
During my last three years of part-time travel, I have witnessed some incredibly beautiful locations and sights, met wonderful and welcoming people, captured some good photographs, and made enough memories. But after being so long on the go, I have also seen the firsthand impacts of overtourism.
The least we can do as travellers, is to minimize the negative impact of our travels, and possibly try to convert into a positive one. This is what responsible travelling is all about. It's not always easy to be a responsible traveller and you don't always have to devote your every moment to it, but it's always better to keep a few things in mind while visiting a new place.
So here is a list of some simple ways in which you can always leave positive impacts in every new place you visit.
1). Buy local items.
2). Watch your waste.
3). Respect locals and their culture.
4). Bargain respectfully.
5). Engage and speak with the locals.
6). Photograph responsibly.
7). Use public transport.
8). Choose sustainable accommodation.
9). Respect the sacred places.
10). Be polite.
11). Eat locally.
12). Respect the environment.
13). Volunteer the locals if possible.
14). Avoid overtourism.
15). Spread the word about responsible travelling.
Have a safe and responsible travel all my fellow travellers.
