The coronavirus pandemic has put a harsh hold on all our travel plans, but here are 7 ways I am coping up with it:
1. Taking a trip down memory lane
Even if we can’t go outside, we can cherish our previous travels. I’ve been constantly looking back at my old travel pictures and I keep sharing them every now and then over my Instagram. Of all the stunning places I have seen, the wonderful people I have met and the beautiful memories I have made.
2. Watching movies and documentaries
I had planned on going to Everest Base Camp in April and since I couldn’t go there due to the pandemic, I have been watching movies and documentaries of the mountains. If you’re a mountain person like me, watch movies like Everest, Beyond the edge, Vertical Limit, K2, Meru, 127 hours and the like.
3. Reading books
When we are stuck at home, the best thing to do is to curl up into a good book. Like movies and documentaries, books take us to a faraway places. So, the best thing we can do staying at home is to satisfy our wanderlust with good travel books. Some of the books that I have recently read are: A walk in the woods, Into the wild, On The Road & Into Thin Air.
4. Making a travel diary
I have made a small travel book in which I have stuck pictures of my most beautiful memories and on the side written how I felt during that time. These small things will not only help you in coping up with your urge to travel but also fill you with gratitude for all the experiences you have had.
5. Learning a new language
Lockdown is a good time to brush up on your skills or learn a new one for which you didn’t get time earlier. I have been practicing guitar and learning French with my brother. Bonjour, comment allez-vous?
6. Cooking
Like most of us, I have been cooking a lot during the lockdown. And honestly, I have been loving it. There are tons of YouTube videos you can learn from. Try and learn how to make an Italian Pizza or maybe even Nepalese momos. This will help you in satisfying your wanderlust in your kitchen.
7. Digging Deeper
In our routine life, we don’t get time to dig deeper about the places we are going to visit. I usually learnt about a place from the locals itself. But, during the lockdown I have been using my wanderlust to immerse into different cultures through books and articles. Lockdown is a good time to learn about the countries you want to visit, their history and traditions.
