Hike to wonderland ( Barsey rhododendron sanctuary)

Tripoto
“Travelling is a sweet bug which if gets inside someone’s head makes a person nomad for life.”
I agree, once we travelled the voyage never ends. To escape the cacophony of city life we planned a walk amidst valley of rhododendrons… The Hilley-Barsey rhododendron trek, a trail with tales. Just before we started the whole Universe (read Puri kayanat) conspired to stop us by sending a depression thunderstorm and all other calamities over Himalaya. But we the sprite lover knew that… dar ke age jeet hai and so finally we reached Okhrey,a small serene village in West Sikim. Hot homely food, warm hospitality gave us a feeling of home away from home(courtesy Hissay Gysto serpa) .
The very next day we started our journey from okhrey to hilley (9km) by car and then we started our fairytale walk through Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary. Dense misty forest, serpentine roads, sound of whistling birds, hidden waterfalls and of course rhododendron, rhododendron and more rhododendron…we enjoyed each and every moment of this colourful trail till we made it to Barsey Guras kunj (10,000 ft). A snack was long due and a bowl of soupy maggi provided much needed nourishment. As weather was foogy and cloudy we started our descent all the way to uttrey and then to okhrey (back to pavilion) ..But a wonderful trip like a short story never really ends.
