Because finally, the European Union member states' ambassadors have given their go-ahead to negotiate a proposal to digitize the visa procedure. This incredible change in the current process will allow travellers to apply for their visa online instead of heading to the consulate in person.
The Change That Is For The Better
The change that was first proposed in 2022 will replace the current Visa sticker with a much safer digital visa that will lead to the prevention of visa stickers' theft and falsification of documents. This would be a smoother and efficient process which will not only reduce the number of trips to the consulate but also make the procedure convenient for travellers.
Steps To Follow The Process
• There will be an online platform (website) where one needs to apply for the Schengen visa.
• All the necessary document needs to be uploaded and the visa fees should be paid.
• The application will then be forwarded to the relevant national visa system automatically.
• The platform will identify the country which would be responsible for the examination of the application. One can also indicate a specific member state that one wishes their application to be processed by.
• The approval or rejection of the application will also be communicated electronically.
Who All Does It Apply To?
There will still be instances when one needs to make in-person appearances such as when the person is a first-time applicant or the biometric information has expired. But beyond these circumstances, this process will make Schengen visa application a lot easier and travelling a lot stress-free!
