Yuksom is a historical town in Geyzing subdivision of West Sikkim district in the Northeast Indian state of Sikkim. It was the first capital of Sikkim established in 1642 AD by Phuntsog Namgyal who was the first Chogyal (temporal and religious king) of Sikkim. The coronation site of the first monarch of Sikkim is known as the "Throne of Norbugang". Yuksom is where there is the Norbugang Chorten near the Norbugang throne, the place Namgyal was crowned and several monasteries and a lake. The dynastic rule of the Chogyals lasted for 333 years.
Sachen is located at about 7200 meters height above the sea level. You can see the log huts spanning all along the way. These are situated a little below the trail track. If the trekkers are more in your group, then you can always opt for the bigger huts situated along the trail. Along the night, you can hear the gushing waters of Perk waterfall. This calm bit of nature's music puts you to sleep.
There is a forest rest house at Bakhim and some trekkers love staying at Bakhim – simply for its view of the Yuksom valley. Bakhim has some awesome tea and snack stalls where you can relish it with ease. As you will be tired enough, so go and take some rest, and then start your trek to Tshoka.
Tsokha was well ahead of my imagination. It was like a mini village more than a camping area. Tsokha has few good restaurants and home stays. It has a lake and a monastery.
It is located at some 12,000 feet from the level of the sea, and this can be a perfect location where you can take some rest and have some delicious lunch. After taking a rest and regaining the energy lead the path which goes towards the right. This path leading for some will meet to Kockchurang. The source of water is available from a stream which is located slightly lower on the path of Kockchurang.
The next stage climbs to pleasant meadows around Dzongri (4020m). Consider another acclimatisation day here, best spent by strolling up to Dzongri La (4550m, four-hour round trip) for fabulous views of Mt Pandim (6691m).This is the last point where you will get ready to eat food stuff and warm clothes. It is actually a junction. From here the trail splits into two. One goes to HMI base camp and other to Goecha La.
Kokchurang has trekkers hut but not enough space to put up your own tents. The Prekchu River flows next to the trekker's hut about 50 meters far. Banks of the river can be a perfect location to pitch up four to five tents. The space is not unlimited, but you can enjoy yourself in the confined place. As you spend the whole day travelling, give your body some rest so that you can complete your trekking successfully. During the evening, you can hear the water flowing in the river with great speed and various sounds from birds which will turn out to make your complete day more pleasing.
Thangsing is a small settlement on the Goecha La trek. Most trekking groups camp here and some stay for a day to acclimatise. There is a basic hut to stay but its quite badly kept. There is a good campsite here and the tents can be pitched with ease. The next destination towards Goeacha La is Samiti lake. Impressive views of Pandim are on offer along the valley in Thangsing.
It will not be difficult to traverse from Thansing to Lamuney. You have to travel along the meadows which will head towards Goechala. The path can become more adventurous as at each steep mountain and ridge will be coming closer to you. The path will be a bit rocky as you try to trek more forward. Travelling I the same direction with some climbing will lead you to the camp. The trail, which gains more altitude, leads to Samiti Lake. Now camping in the lake is no allowed so you will have to stay down. If you want, you can trek and view the lake and return to the base.
As you climb towards Gochala Pass and pause to take a deep breadth, you can enjoy the colour of transparent torquise of Lake Samiti- A glacial lake in the Onglathang valley.
Goecha La (el. 4940 mt or 16,207 ft) is a high mountain pass in Sikkim, India in the Himalaya range. The southeast face of Mt. Kanchenjunga, the world's third highest mountain, is viewable from the pass, which is also a base camp for those aspiring to scale the mountain. From here, you can see the head-spinning Goecha La (4940m) for those incredible views of Khangchendzonga. A further viewpoint, another hour’s walk ahead, offers even closer views.
