Train rides with the Indian Railways just got sweeter! In the battle to compete with roadways and low-cost airlines, Indian Railways is now offering up to 25 per cent discounts on train tickets. The offers will be exclusively available for Shatabdi Express, Tejas Express, Gatiman Express, and the Vande Bharat Express.
Reports suggest that a circular has been circulated among the zonal managers to discuss and finalise the discounted prices that could be competitive and productive. Furthermore, the Railway Ministry has offered discounted fares for all parts of the journey, including the first leg, intermediate sections, and even the last part. The prices are at the discretion of the zone managers henceforth.
These discounts will be applicable for trains with AC chair cars as well as executive chair cars, making it an even better deal for travellers. This will directly affect the ticket’s base fare, GST, reservation fee and other charges. The discounts come as an after effect of these trains showing a monthly occupancy of less than 50 per cent in 2018. Indian Railways will offer this discount whenever they find it suitable, be it yearly, half-yearly, seasonally, or on weekends.
However, this discount scheme cannot be coupled with other discounts for the Shatabdi Express (graded discounts included) or flexi-fares. So long, travellers. Bon Voyage!
