Monasteries have been the integral part of Buddist culture from time immemorial. One such monastery is located in the high mountains of Eastern Himalayan region in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh. Its full name is Tawang Galdan Namgye Lhatse Monastery.
The monastery was founded by Merek Lama Lodre Gyamsto in 1680–81 at the behest of the 5th Dalai Lama. The monastery is 3 stories high and it is enclosed by a 925 feet (282 m) long compound wall. Within the complex there are 65 residential buildings. This not only makes it the biggest, but also one of the oldest monasteries in the world.
I was lucky to explore this monastery during my recent trip to North East India. Here is a vlog from my visit. Hope you enjoy watching this. If you do, please do subscribe to my channel Little Detours. I also publish aerial views, moto vlogs and other travel videos on my channel.
