After a long span of working months, got a point where I wanted to escape my routine and just wanted to enjoy nature and live within nature. After a thorough research, Sri Lanka was that place which ticked all my needs for my next vacation.
Started from Kuwait to Colombo, we kept very minimal time for Colombo as our priority was to explore country side of Sri Lanka. From Colombo, took a morning train to the beautiful and most visited hill station of Ella. You need to book tickets for this in advance, as this is the highlight of most of the travelers visiting Sri Lanka.
The train journey was long but it was comfortable in 1st AC coach, and I have tried to sit in the 2nd class coach which was similar to 1st but just without AC. You wont need it unless you are going in peak summer. Travel tip "You can trust the coach attendant and order your lunch if you are not carrying with you, the food he provided was tasty and one of the best meals I have had in Lanka".
After reaching Ella at 5.30 PM, it was time to checkin to the home stay from booking.com. You can take Tuk-tuk in Ella for shorter or longer destinations and bargain if you think their price is high, otherwise all drivers ask for decent money for a ride. We decided take a walk along the railway track to explore options for authentic Ella style food and after asking couple of people, we were suggested to dine at Matey Hut. Oh man! their food was soo good that we ended up having 3 times at Matey in our 3 days visit (didn't want to miss out other restaurants taste)
Since we stuffed ourselves with food till dinner, we went to visit the most famous and instagrammed spot of Lanka Nine Arches Bridge which was just 3 kms from our stay along the railway track.
After hanging out at the bridge, we decided to take tuk-tuk and visit some tea plantations and wrapped up our sight seeing activity for the day (coz rest n chill was prime motto this trip).
The next day was planned to do Ravana Caves Hiking and visit Ravana Falls. The falls was okay but hike to Ravana Caves was damn tiring!
A tip and a spoiler: If you expect a nice view after a tiring hike, dont reach the top. Just stop here. That was all for this day..
Another day, another hike.. this time to the Ella Rock, the hike was an easy one with refreshing views on and top of the Rock. Just took us 30 minutes to reach the top.
Our favorite restaurant Matey Hut provides cooking classes too, where you can learn and make these curries yourself with guidance of the head chef. however you will be part of batch and will be doing some part of cooking only.
This was all from Ella and next day we left to Mirissa another beautiful town of Sri Lanka but a coastal one, will post about it in next blog. Adios!
