Dilli—the city of hearts has a lot to offer to a traveller. The rich history of Delhi makes it more charming and exploring and this is the reason that Delhi attracts travellers across the globe. Delhi receives more than lakhs of footsteps every year.
Though it’s impossible to explore the city in a day but I tried to explore few places back to back in a day. So, the journey starts early in the morning around 6. First, I headed towards Kalkaji Temple. It is 7-8 minutes walk from the Kalkaji metro station. The temple is located in the middle of the market and very much crowded due to the significance of the temple. It’s a general belief that the idol of goddess Kali immerged on its own and dates back to Satya Yuga.
Being little lucky I made it early to get the glimpse and left for my next destination Lal Kila (Red Fort). While growing up we all read about Lal Kila in our history book.
Thanks to Delhi Metro, every place seems connected perfectly in the city. Lal Kila is only 5-6 minutes walking distance from Chandani Chowk Metro station. While walking, I saw Gurudwara Sis Ganj and went inside. Gurudwaras have always been one of my favourite places as they give me very positive vibes and a peaceful ambience.
After experiencing peaceful time inside, I headed towards Lal Kila. As I reached there early, I had to wait for a while till 9:30 to get my entry ticket.

The 200 years old history of Lal Kila has a lot to say through its different structures. You can enjoy the rich architecture crafted by Mughals—such as Diwan-i-Aam, Mumtaz Mahal, Rang Mahal, Khas Mahal, Hammam, Moti Masjid etc.

You need to spend at least 2 hours to get the gist of everything inside. As it was not my first visit, so I sat on the garden for more than an hour and walked around few places.
As I was out since early morning, my stomach started begging for food. And once you are in Chandni Chowk, how could you skip the Paranthae wali gali. I took a riksha to reach there and had the famous parathas from the lanes of famous Paranthae wali gali.
After the food treat I got into Delhi Metro to reach my next destination Qutub Minar. I reached there around 1:30. Qutub Minar reminds me my school days when this place used to be our ultimate picnic destination. I always have always found the architecture of Qutub Minar very interesting and fascinating as it reflects both, its establishment and restoration.

Without shopping, a trip is incomplete. So, the next stop was Janpath. The stretch from Janpath to Connaught Place (CP) is the most happening part of Delhi, I guess. You see different shops in different décor—from books to clothes—you’ll get everything. One can also have a look to the main Janpath market. If you are good at bargaining, then this place is all for you.

Once you start living in Delhi, CP becomes a regular place for you. Doesn’t matter how frequently you visit CP, you can never get bored of it. This place has its own charm.
As the day passed, I was a little tired but did not want to skip my favourite place India Gate. I never needed any reason to visit India Gate as the place itself holds me back every time I visit.
What could be best than this—spending an evening at India Gate. By the time I reached India Gate, the sun was gone and I managed to spot few stars in Delhi’s dark sky.
I sat on the ground facing India Gate, had my must have ice-cream, clicked many photos from every angle to fit myself with India Gate in the frame.
This was the beautiful ending of an amazing day. I was tired but happy too. I managed to visit few places but made a lot of memories and had a lot of fun.
So, this was my “Ek din ki Dilli”. We plan for trips to go out because this city keeps us so busy in our work that we almost forget that the city has a lot to offer. But believe me just take out a day and make your list to roam around the city and you’ll be back with a lot of memories and contentment.
