This means minimising physical, social, behavioral, and psychological impacts while building environmental and cultural awareness and respect and providing positive experiences for both visitors and hosts.
The Government of India has also been promoting Eco Tourism and now under the Swadesh Darshan scheme, Eco Circuit will be on the fifteen thematic circuits for development in the country.
This theme was recognized by the Ministry of Tourism to promote and popularise eco-tourism in the country. For this theme, a total of 6 projects have been sanctioned.
A MOU was signed with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the Responsible Tourism Society of India (RTSOI) by the Tourism Ministry. According to the reports, The Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change has issued certain guidelines for sustainable ecotourism and preparing an ecotourism plan. This plan will include an analysis-based description and the carrying capacity of the eco-tourism in the country.
What is Swadesh Darshan Scheme?
Launched in 2014-15 by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Government of India, Swadesh Darshan Scheme is a theme-based tourist circuit in the country. These tourist circuits will be developed on the principles of high tourist value, competitiveness and sustainability in an integrated manner.
Under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme, the Ministry of Tourism provides Central Financial Assistance – CFA to State Governments, Union Territory Administrations for the infrastructure development of circuits.
What is a Tourist Circuit?
Tourist Circuit is defined as a route on which at least three major tourist destinations are not in the same town, village or city and not separated by a long-distance as well. Tourist circuits should have well-defined entry and exit points. So, a tourist who enters should get motivated to visit most of the places identified in the circuit.
What is the Aim of this Scheme?
The Government aims to promote tourism as a catalyst for economic growth and the creation of jobs. This will help in developing India into a world-class tourist destination with ecological and cultural conservation.
This also helps in developing professionalism and modernism in tourism with a focus on in-depth infrastructure development.
Which are the other circuits in the Swadesh Darshan Scheme?
A total of 15 theme based circuits have been identified in the scheme.
The other circuits are - Buddha Circuit, Coastal Circuit, Desert Circuit, Eco Circuit, Heritage Circuit, North-east Circuit, Himalayan Circuit, Sufi Circuit, Krishna Circuit, Ramayana Circuit, Rural Circuit, Spiritual Circuit, Tirthankar Circuit, Wildlife Circuit and Tribal Circuit.
