About Dudhwa:
Dudhwa national park is the 811² kms park in the terai region on the border of India and nepal. The district under which Dudhwa falls are Lakhimpur & kheri.
The forest saw huge encroachment after 1947 Indian independence and was turned mostly into an agricultural land, It became the favourite place for the poachers who were making profit selling animal products in the nepali tourist market. “Billy” Arjan singh made an effort to save this forest and approached Indira gandhi in 1977 to declare the forest as a national Park .
Two sanctuaries fall under this forest reserve Kishanpur and Katerniaghat wildlife sanctuaries. Which have very beautiful green lands and species of animals.
My journey to Dudhwa:
I decided to go there in december because It seems the best time and this forest is a little bit out of focus for the travel business which is a good thing for me atleast. I am from Lucknow and the park is 220 kms far from Lucknow.
When I visited this place it was colder than the rest places mostly because of its environment. It is a lesser known gem and you would love the grounded nature of this place., the place has not so many facilities like other forest reserves but staying in the government forest rest houses gives you a different feeling.
Best way to stay & enjoy is to book forest rest houses through director office at dudhwa or palia on phone. [Website: www.dudhwatigerreserve.com] . Sal forest rest house is comfortable than the other Rest houses.
On our safari ride me and my brother were on the safari. We hired a local guide as well. When we were going ,we saw few of the safaris apart from our vehicles that means the tourism is not so abundant as in other Forest reserves.
Going few kilometres we could see the spotted deers in their herd, many of you may probably know about this deer before. mesmerizing creature. This deer looks like a decorative piece in the forest beautiful golden spotted bodies in huge herds makes a perfect scenery in the middle of the jungle.
We saw swamp deer, sambar , elephants in their herd the gigantic creature, It was like 5 to 6 big brown rocks are moving and how small we are in front of them, I was wondering that Nature has given an enormous size to this creature still this is tamed by the humans and most of the times killed just because of human greed.
We also watched Beautiful wild birds here like Barbets, Kingfisher, sarus cranes, woodpeckers.
As we were lucky enough we spotted a tiger. This moment was a trophy for us and we just did not want to go it away. Well you can’t spend the whole day and the animal is also among wanderers so we had to move on.
These wild animals just blend with the forest here and make a perfect scenery which makes the place so splendid.
I booked a self drive Car from Ogonn to have a long drive experience, Since It is not a big deal to drive to Dudhwa park from Lucknow, It is just 220 kms away from here. One can drive Its own car to Dudhwa from the Capital city.
The environment is so refreshing and gives you a touch of thrill.
If you love to explore wild forests and wild places gives you a sense of thrill , this place will surely give you memories.
