DO THE "DIU"

Tripoto

When it comes to long weekends, we go crazy looking for short trips. We had 3 days in hand and what could have been better than DIU (now that you know that we were staying at Vadodara). We boarded a bus from Pandya bridge at 9:30 pm. It charged us Rs 800 (for 2) and took around 10 hr to reach Diu. We planned to stay near Nagoa beach so we took an auto from Diu central bus stand to Nagoa beach.

Day 1

Arriving at 8 am, we found that there are few beach resorts and we chose to check-in to Paramount Beach Resort. Now this resort has a beautiful location and we were lucky to get hold of a sea-facing room. It had already started drizzling outside. We got ourselves freshen up, had breakfast, hired a bike and went out to explore the city. It was an amazing experience to ride through the corners of this unknown however welcoming little city of Diu.

We started with the Shell Museum which is a small yet a shop full of treasure. As the name implies there is a huge collection of shells and the owner himself is a person full of experience and stories to tell. You can also buy souvenirs. We then headed towards the Diu Fort. This one is a majestic one. Every fort beside a sea has a great view and this one is no exception.

The fort was built in 1535 after to a defense alliance forged by Bahadur Shah, the Sultan of Gujarat and the Portuguese when Humayun, the Mughal Emperor waged war to take over this territory. You can see cannons, lighthouse and a wonder view of the sea. This one is a must visit if you are in Diu. We then moved towards the St. Paul’s Church which was not too far and like any other church that we visit. Then we drove till the Naida Caves which is very near to the beach. It was very cool, neat and a less explored. By then it was almost evening and we returned back to our resort.

Day 2

Next day we woke up and headed towards the beach. It was a real stress buster and peaceful to get wet in the beach of Nagoa. By afternoon we checked out and moved to the bus stop for our bus at 7 pm. By morning we were back to Vadodara with sweet memories of this short yet refreshing trip.
