Buddhist monastery hidden 40 km (25 km) east of Leh in India is almost 400 years old, and yet it has not been thoroughly investigated. One well-known feature of Lhasa is that it is home to a large statue of Padmasambhava (Padmasambhava is almost two stories tall) and a collection of ancient texts whose text is printed in gold and with the titles in silver.
The Drugpa monastic order built the Chemrey Monastery, which is also a part of the Drugpa order, and it was dedicated to King Sengge Namgyal in 1664. Inside, the massive structure is crammed with shrines, two prayer rooms, and a lama temple.
The fascinating Chemrey Monastery is also a famous tourist destination for those visiting the holy dance festival known as the Chemrey Angchok, which is celebrated on the 28th and 29th days of the ninth month of the Tibetan calendar. Tourists come from all over to see the colourful monastery during this time.
