Ludhiana was founded in 1480 by members of the ruling Lodhi dynasty of the Delhi sultanat.

The name was originated from "Lodhi-ana", which means"Lodhi town", which has since transformed from "Lodiana" to the present form of Ludhiana.

Ludhiana is a large industrial city in the north Indian state of Punjab and has been ranked as the easiest city in India for business according to the WORLD BANK.

1. LODHI FORT :

This fort is around 500 years old, was build by Sikandar Lodhi. The fort also has a tunnel to the neighbouring town of Phillaur. The tunnel being around 14 km long is open from this side of Lodhi Fort. Mostly the structure is turned into ruins but still it's worth visiting the fort to get some glimpse of ancient architecture. I personally suggest you to come here before sunrise and watch sunrise from the fort. The fort being situated in the center of the city gives the perfect view of whole city.

2. HARDY'S WORLD :

Situated 7 km away from Ludhiana, it is the most significant water-themed park in Punjab.This water-themed park gets your adrenaline pumped up with over 20 exhilarating rides like the roller coaster, sun & moon, pendulum and motorcycle. You can spend 1 full day enjoying here. The park has it's own restaurant and hotel in case you need any refreshments.

3. PHILLAUR FORT :

Phillaur Fort or Maharaja Ranjit Singh Fort is located on the Grand Trunk Road in Phillaur. The fort's architecture has a distinct European character, with channels dug out along the boundary of the fort, watchtowers on the two gateways and high wall around the fort. It also home to Pir Baba Abdullah Shah Ji's Shrine and such the local Muslims consider it a holy place. The fort also contains several tombs of Muslim icons and members of Shah Shuja's family. The fort is home to Punjab Police Academy and hence opens for tourists only on Thursday.

4. GHANTA GHAR MARKET :

You can't skip visiting the Ghanta ghar marker of ludhiana ( Manchester of India ), being the hub for hosiery you can find quality clothes at low prices here. Especially famous for woollen clothings, ludhiana is best place for shopping for your next winters. The best time to visit market is early morning as it's less crowded at that time. Also be aware of pickpockets, they remain active at such crowded spots.

5. QILA RAIPUR OLYMPIC GAMES :

Qila Raipur Sports Festival, popularly known as the Rural Olympics, is held annually in Qila Raipur, Ludhiana. This festival is held annually in the Mont of February. The competitions are held for major Punjabi rural sports, include cart-race, athletic events, rope pulling etc. Each year, Ludhiana becomes the destination for hundreds of sports enthusiasts, including foreigners. They come to Qila Raipur to see the special breed of bullocks, camels, dogs, mules and other animals competing in competitive events.
