Being in Jaipur is like entering a labyrinth of historic landmarks, filled with shops selling traditional things.

Jaipur is an epitome of royalty, rich food, colours and warm hospitality.

Well, although it’s nicknamed the pink city, it isn’t really pink. The buildings are actually more of a peach or orange colour.

If this is your first time in Jaipur- here is an essential first-timers Jaipur travel guide.

Places to visit in Jaipur-

Jal Mahal-

The entry to Jal Mahal is currently unpermitted because of the long-pending court case of the Jal Tarang project.

However, you can surely enjoy a stroll along the promenade.

Amer Fort-

Amer Fort sits around 15 kilometres away from the main city of Jaipur, so you’ll need to get a Tuk-Tuk, Tam-Tam or Taxi here.

Since I was traveling with a group of 4 people in total, what we did was book a car from Revv 3-4 days prior to our trip. And commuting just got super easy!

Exploring the fort almost took half of our day.

Panna Meena ka kund-

Panna Meena ka Kund is a square-shaped stepwell, with adjoining stairs on all four sides and a room on the northern wall. The stepwell is on the way to Amer Fort and is less crowded as many don't stop and visit this place.

Nahargarh Fort-

Nahargarh Fort offers a great drive through the winding hill road and is always brimming with masses.

It offers the most beautiful panoramic and expansive views of the Jaipur city and the sunset is marvellous.

City Palace-

City Palace is a building that has preserved the history of the city and is an icon of grandeur. Once you enter the palace you are transfixed by its beauty and the marvelous architecture and the artifacts inside the palace.

City Palace used to be the home for the royal family of Jaipur but later it was divided into two parts; one which contains few courtyards and museums and the other where the royal family still resides.

The Gates inside the Palace-

Lotus Gate–

Beautified with lotus petals and stunning floral patterns representing summer season, Lotus gate is dedicated to Lord Shiv and his consort Parvati.

Peacock gate-

It is one of the most famous and admired gates of them all. This gate is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and symbolizes the autumn season.

Rose gate–

The repeated petal pattern represents winter season and is dedicated to Goddess Devi.

Lehariya Gate–

The beautifully vivid green coloured gate or the green gate represents the green of spring season. This indicates the start of the spring and is dedicated to Lord Ganesha.

The City Palace surely makes you fall in love with its art.

Hawa Mahal-

The area around Hawa Mahal is congested, it witnesses traffic snarls throughout the day. So if you explore the place is all itsy glory then mornings or late evenings is the best time to visit this place.

Another alternative is to visit Wind’s Cafe or the Tattoo cafe opposite Hawa Mahal and soak in the beauty that it truly is.

Patrika Gate-

The Patrika Gate is an entranceway to the Jahawar Circle Park.

On the outside, you’ll find a huge elaborate pink, On the inside of the gate, you’ll find a fabulous rainbow walkway!

The art is mesmerizing and you can't stop admiring every bit of the gate. It’s easy to see why this is a top photo location in the city. It’s incredibly gorgeous.

Places to eat in Jaipur-

Now these are the places that I absolutely couldn't stop gushing over with my mouth full and heart at its fullest!

Masala Chowk-

Jaipur Masala Chowk is a open-air food court very close to the popular tourist attraction, Albert Hall Museum in Ram Niwas garden. Generally, it is open between 9 AM to 10 PM.

Masala Chowk provides an authentic street food experience and is worth a visit.

Rawat Mishtaan Bhandar-

Rawat Mishtaan Bhandar is one of the oldest legendary eatery. Popular for its Pyaaz kachoris, that are extremely delicious.

Laxmi Mishtaan Bhandar-

LMB, is a well-known hotel, restaurant and sweet shop. The hotel stands above the sweet shop. The restaurant serves pure vegetarian food and is known for its Rajasthani thali, Dal bati churma, and kulfi.

Tattoo Cafe-

The Tattoo cafe is placed at one of the most beautiful and exclusive locations in all of Jaipur and serves the tastiest and reasonably priced food.

Lassiwala-

Lassiwala, the iconic shop situated at MI road has been serving ‘lassi’ to the Jaipurites for more than seventy years now.

The lassi at this widely known and acknowledged lassiwala should definitely not be missed.

Where to shop in Jaipur?

Shopping in Jaipur is incomplete without a visit to Johari Bazar or Bapu Bazar. The city is famous for its handmade art, craft, fabrics, and jewelry among other things.

Where to stay in Jaipur?

There are many boutique Haveli’s, traditional hotels and hundreds of budget options to choose from in Jaipur.

But personally I'm a fan of hostels as I feel it just adds to the adventure of where I am!

There are popular hostels like Moustache and Zostel to stay in.

Jaipur is a mix of centuries, woven together through the boulevards and bazars amid the chaos of tuk-tuks, pedestrians, tourists, elephants, all buzzing with a vibrant exuberance.
