Landed on Bangkok Airport (BKK). After Immigration and Visa on Arrival(free for Indians till 31st January), I headed to some tourist sim kiosks which are inside the airport only. There were 2 -3 companies like AIS and DTAC but their data plans were quite expensive as compared to Truemove. So I bought Truemove tourist sim card which costed me 250 bahts(INR 500) with 4 mbps unlimited data and valid for 8 days. Then I headed to Airport link metro station which is inside the Airport only. It connects BKK to the City Center. There are ticket vending machines inside the metro station which accept both coins and notes. My ticket from BKK to Phaya Thai was around 40 Bahts(INR80). The Metro was super clean and moderately crowded. You will enjoy Lovely view of the city from the metro. After reaching Phaya thai station, I went to BTS(Metro) station which is inside the same building. Metro train is called BTS there. You can reach different parts of the city by BTS. There are ticket vending machines around, which accept both coins and notes. There is a touch screen map of the BTS stations on the vending machine, click on the station where you want to go and the fare will be displayed. Or you can opt for BTS Day Card which is 140 bahts (INR280) per day, in which you can take as many rides in a single day by BTS. It is available on the ticket counters. I opted for BTS Day Card, and took BTS from Phaya thai to OnNut station. My hostel was near the OnNut station, which is a bit far from the City centre, because of which I got it at a dirt cheap rate of just INR 130!!!!! Per Night. The Hostel's name is VX The Fifty, and you can get amazing deals by booking through Goibibo. The hostel is pretty amazing, with good amenities like shared kitchen, chilling area, high speed wifi, etc. After filling up the details, i got my smart key and went up to my dormitory which i was sharing with other 9 people but my bunk bed had nice curtains for privacy and a Locker and a switch board near the bed for charging and the bed was quite cozy. There are certain rules which you have to follow in the dormitory like no smoking, no music and No Sex 😉.
And yeah, Do not lose the key, otherwise you will be fined 1000 bahts!!
After resting for a while I woke up in the evening, took a nice Shower and decided to go to Terminal 21 mall, which is a must visit in bangkok. I walked upto OnNut BTS station and from there took BTS to Asok station. Terminal 21 mall is attached to Asok BTS through a walkway and you can walk directly from Asok station to 1st floor of Terminal 21 mall. This is one of the biggest and luxurious malls of bangkok. There are a lot of Indian and Thai cuisine restaurants on the top floor. If you are a Non Veg lover and Italian cuisine lover, then do visit Pizza pala Romana on the ground floor of terminal 21. After having a yummy NewYork style pizza there, I went to the third floor for trying out some Desserts.😉 Do visit Coldstone Creamery for some Yummy Desserts. I tried their Signature Oreo Sundae which was around 175 bahts. To be continued.. (Busy because shopping for Dubai trip)
