Today 6th August 2021 at 11AM we started from Vijayapur and reached Badami caves at @1.30 PM.. Distance is 120 km. It took 2 hours to see the heritage site..
Badami formerly known as Vatapi. Badami cave temples represent Hinduism and Jainism.
There is group of 4 caves. The carvings in this caves are dancing Shiva, Ganesha, Mahishasura Mardini, Ardha Nareeshwara, Shankarnarayana, Bhagwan Mahavir etc. On the ceilings there are carvings of Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva and other figures.
Today on 7th August in the morning at 10 we went to see Agastya lake and temples around Lake which is just 1.5 km away from our lodge. As the road is not good we parked our car at lodge and we by auto. He took just Rs. 100/- to drop us at lake. Lake has splendid view. It is said tht lake has water throughout year. It is magical location across the BADAMI CAVES. But the huts on its banks must relocate to enhance the beauty.
There is Archeological museum which is very nice featuring the area's stone sculptures & artifacts from the 6th—16th centuries.
Then we went to lower Shivalaya and Upper Shivalaya, Bhutnath temple. Upper Shivalaya is very hard to go for elderly people as my mother and father stayed on half way only.
It took about 4 hours to visit all places then we had lunch at Banashree hotel near ST stand.
