I want to write this because it is quite relatable to 70% of Indian families. The biggest challenge for the children is to convince parents to allow them for a trip. I, too, faced this challenge when I was giving birth to a travel blogger in me. Nomadifying i.e. the world of travel inspired by my personal experiences.
Indian parents are a bit extra protective for their children. It is not wrong on their part as being a parent. They are supposed to be protective and caring for their children. Being concerned, they do not allow their kids to travel without them. The main reason behind this big NO is the media exposing the world as a cruel, harsh place and spreading hatred with endless incidents happening around the world. Due to this, they do not let their children travel around with their friends or solo. But, if parents will not allow their kids to explore the world, they will never know the beauty and kindness of people that have faded away due to many things.
Being a travel blogger and one of the normal Indian kids who has also received many rejections from my parents to travel with my friends or go on solo trips, here is an open letter to Indian parents to let their kids travel around the world.
Dear Indian Parents,
You are caring, concerned, and loving, everything that a parent is supposed to be. But being honest, when you say NO for us to travel with our friends or go on solo trips, it shatters our hearts into millions of pieces. We understand that you do not believe this cruel world, but if you do not allow you, children, to go out and explore, they will never know the actual beauty and humanity left in people. Also, if you do not let them come out of their cocoon, they will never learn to fly out of their comfort zones.
Don’t you want your child to become independent and smart enough to handle any kind of situation on his own? There are many things around that a person learns on his own. But, if you will pull you, children, back, not let them struggle with the situations alone, they will never be able to face reality. This world is full of pretty secrets that one needs to explore and learn from.
We understand that you want your child to achieve all the goals and success, get good grades, a good college, and later a good job. But, struggling to clear all these steps, traveling has become a necessity for youth to get some peace and a break from this hectic life. Don’t you want them to achieve all they want?
Everyone has a passion and a little spark to explore this amazing world before getting trapped in the not so happening daily life rushing to office, doing the household chores, and other stuff.
Reasons Why Parents Should Allow Their Kids to Travel
1. For Self Growth and Confidence - Travelling helps in building up self-confidence and promotes growth in an individual. Travelling can also prove to be life-changing, teaching us to deal with any situation. It helps a person explore their strengths, weaknesses, likes, and dislikes.
2. Travelling Makes us Much Stronger- This world is definitely not a bed of roses. You need to go through various ups and downs during any trip. By allowing your children to travel independently, you will make them stronger and practical to deal with all sorts of situations.
3. Travel Makes us Love Ourselves – While you travel, you can explore some hidden yet beautiful facts about yourself. Hiding behind the hectic schedules and social media, we forget to know the real person behind us. But traveling can make you love yourself and help you explore THE REAL YOU!
Closure
This note is for all Indian parents who do not allow their children to travel. It is a request from us and the youth through a letter to Indian parents to let their kids travel. It is right on your part being protective and concerned. But, due to this, many children do not get an opportunity to explore the world and even to explore themselves, becoming independent, and be able to face any challenge that comes. Some life lessons cannot be taught verbally. They require some practical experience. So, let your children travel, explore, become a better version of themselves and make them strong enough to face the harsh realities.
