Solo traveling is fun but it can be challenging at times too. It is very important to follow some tips while traveling solo because I am sure you don't want to get into any trouble.
These are the tips you need to keep a check on
While you are traveling solo it is very important to pack what you can carry because no is going to help you carry your luggage. A back-pack or a rucksack should be sufficient for all your essentials.
2. Try to arrive at your destination during the day.
Plan your trip so that you arrive at the destination in daylight so that you are not walking on the unfamiliar streets at night with luggage searching for your accommodations. Also traveling at night can be unsafe.
3. Be observant always.
Watch the world around you. Observe how the locals interact, how things work out. Try to blend in so that you don't become an obvious solo tourist target. You can learn a lot through observation.
4. Don't get wasted when you are traveling solo.
Partying is not harmful at all but getting overly drunk can cause a problem if you are traveling solo. Don't try to drink and then expect to get home safe, it might not end well. So drink with your friends in your city not while traveling solo.
5. Always have a backup plan.
There is no harm in have a plan B, Plan C, D and so on. Sometimes things don't go as planned before so without panicking go for your backup plan. Trust your instincts and never sacrifice on your safety.
6. Store important essentials at one place.
Keep all the safety, first aid, and documents at one place, so that you don't waste your time searching for them when needed. Emergency arrives out of the blue.
7. Always keep your phone/tablet charged.
Always carry battery backup, power banks while traveling. Try to save on battery because that is an essential device you have for your problems. Charge your phones and power banks at the hotels itself, don't take a risk with this.
8. Leave a trail.
Social media can be very helpful tool while traveling solo. A simple check-in or a photo upload can keep your family members and friends updated about your location. Set a 'time-frame' before leaving home, aka 'if I don't post for 3 days in a row know that I am in trouble.'
My personal advice is to keep your money at different places in your bag-pack. Some in the wallet, some in the bag and some in your pouch.
