When looking for a travel partner for your next trip, you should seriously consider taking one of your siblings along. Do you want to find out why?
Why Traveling with Your Siblings is the Best
Every once in a while, I get tired of my daily routine, and I feel that I need some change. In those moments, going to restaurants or pubs, playing pokies games at 24pokies.com, and reading books on the weekend, are no longer enough.
That is when the desire to pack my bags and go on a trip hit me hard, and I immediately start looking for a travel companion.
Should I travel with a friend? On my own? Or maybe a family member will prove to be the best travel buddy? Traveling with the right person can make all the difference between a fun trip and a disastrous one, which is why you need to put some thought into the matter.
A few years back, I decided to go on vacation with my sister, and it was one of the best decision I ever made. Here is why:
Familiarity – If you are planning to share the same room with another person for the duration of the trip, knowing all about his little quirks in advance is a big plus. After all, you don’t want to find out your partner in crime is in the habit of doing something extremely annoying, such as snoring or constantly complaining, only after you’ve arrived at your destination. With siblings, you won’t have to deal with this kind of issues. Since you already know each other, and you’ve probably shared a room a time or a dozen times, getting along while traveling will be much easier.
Bonding time – Once you stop sharing the same roof as your siblings, you probably won’t see them as much as you used to. Your relationship is bound to change, and you will have to work harder to stay in touch. Traveling together will give you the chance to get to know each other even better than before, as your attention will be focused mostly on each other for a great portion of the trip. That is the perfect opportunity to make new memories, talk about personal subjects, and have fun like you never had before!
No need to tiptoe around each other – When you travel with someone you’re not 100% comfortable with, it might pose an issue. If you or your companion will feel uncomfortable to talk about things that bother you, it might affect your mood and the entire vibe of the trip. With your siblings, you probably won’t have the same problem. They won’t have an issue to confront you when you’re in the wrong, and they won’t get mad if you reprimand them in return – well, not for long, at least.
A Few Tips
Even though there are so many perks to traveling with a sibling, it can still pose a challenge. Sometimes your brothers or sisters can be annoying, and your familiarity and closeness with each other can be overwhelming.
However, if you follow a few simple rules, you will be able to enjoy your sibling’s company without going crazy.
First and foremost, schedule some alone time. If you are positive that you will drive each other up the walls, don’t spend every second of the day together! Go your separate ways for a morning or two, each of you doing something you like that the other is not interested in, and meet up later with new stories to share. It’s OK to give each other space during a trip, especially if it’s a long one.
Also, you should always share in the responsibilities of planning the trip. Otherwise, you might find yourself harbouring some resentment towards your sibling, feeling that it’s unfair that you’ve done most of the hard work, and that can greatly affect your experience together. Decide in advance who will be responsible for planning specific parts of the trip, and you will be able to avoid those negative feelings.
Last but not least, you should be able to compromise. Siblings often disagree with each other, and that’s alright, as long as you don’t turn it into a massive fight. Listen to your sibling and accept what he or she are saying, even if you are not in agreement.
By doing those simple things, you will be able to have a spectacular vacation with your siblings.
