As travellers, when we thought about our prewedding shoot, the only theme that stuck to us was travel-themed casual prewedding. While planning our photoshoot, we had no references or resources. When we talked to photographers and videographers, they suggested the cliched themes for the photoshoot and had no idea how to create a travel vibe in our prewedding pictures. We then discussed together and with lots of ideas, props and the help of our photographer we could get those perfect pictures we always wanted.
But you don't have to worry about anything as we have curated this one-stop guide for everything you need to know about the travel-themed prewedding shoot. Here are ten creative ideas for your perfect travel-themed prewedding shoot.
1. Showcase your travel story creatively
Choose a prop to write down your travel story. It can be a blackboard, slate, whiteboard, photo frame, cardboard etc. It will be unique as no one can write your travel story the way you can.
2. Bring the most cherished travel activity of your choice into your pictures
Think of the activity you like to do most while travelling with your partner. It could be a car ride, bike ride, hiking in the woods, camping under the stars, relaxing by the pool etc. It could be anything that you cherish the most. Try to bring that travel activity into your pictures, and trust us, it will automatically make your shoot look natural. And of course, it will be more memorable since it is your favourite travel activity.
PS: We have been bike riding for many years, so we chose that.
3. Use passports in your travel themed photoshoot
Passports are the perfect symbol of travel, and using passports in your prewedding will create the travel vibe you need for your shoot. Get customised couple passport covers to add more charm to your shoot.
4. Include bikes, cars, caravans for the photoshoot
You can use the mode of transport that you enjoy the most while travelling as one of the main props. It could be anything like a bike, car, boat, train, cruise etc.
5. Use props like maps and globes
This idea came to us from our real-life experience. We used maps while travelling across Europe, and from that, we got the idea to use paper maps in our shoot. You can also use a globe, camera, photography gear as props in your photoshoot.
6. Choose a destination that you have always wanted to travel to, and create a memory for life
Destination Prewedding is perfect for travel lovers. You can travel and get your shoot done at the same time. The right place can set the mood for your whole shoot. Suppose you chose the beach location so your outfits can be according to beach vacations, and the photo shoot can be around the beach. Similarly, if you chose the Fort, hike or mountains, the photoshoot would be according to it.
7. Wear casual clothes and use travel accessories
One of the most important things for the photoshoot is deciding the coordinated outfits. But when the theme is travel, it's easier to choose dresses, as you can wear the most comfortable clothes for the shoot rather than heavy gowns and tuxedos. Choose the casual clothes you usually wear while travelling. Coordinate the clothes with your partner and add accessories to accentuate the whole look. For example, you can wear matching sneakers, matching aviators etc.
8. Use backpacks and luggage bags in your photoshoot
You can choose matching backpacks or trolley bags to create a travel vibe in your photos. If you are a trekker, you can even use your trekking gears for the shoot.
9. Recreate your favourite travel memory during a photoshoot
Reliving your best memories is something everyone wants. A photoshoot gives you that opportunity. So you already know what moment you want to capture when you want to recreate a particular travel memory, and thus it is easier for you to get into that zone and shoot it with your partner. It will give your photo shoot a real twist.
10. Include old travel pictures in your prewedding collection
Try to include any old travel pictures that you have taken while travelling together as these are not just the pictures but the memories. While travelling, it is hard to take perfectly planned photographs, but you can still include them in your pre-wedding collection to remind yourself what you truly love and what brought you together.
PS: We even use one of our travel pictures in our wedding invite.
Choosing the right photographers and videographers are difficult. Before finalising any photographer, discuss your requirement and your theme. If you feel that the photographer is interested in your idea for the photoshoot, then go for it. If you are looking for a budget shoot, then ask your photographer to suggest some open locations for the shoot that would suit your travel theme and are free.
We hope this guide will help create a travel vibe in your prewedding shoot, and you will get those beautiful pictures you have always wanted. Have a fun photoshoot and remember it's an experience to remember, so go for it!
