Day 2

It is believed that Tirumala was to begin with Adi Varaha Kshetra, which means that it was the home of Sri Adi Varaha Swami. It was only later with his permission that Lord Sri Venkateswara took up residence here.
That is why it is said that devotees should first offer naivedyam to Sri Adi Varaha Swami, and then visit the Sri Venkateswara Temple.
As per the Atri Samhita (Samurtarchanadhikara), the Varaha avatara is worshipped in three forms including, Adi Varaha, Pralaya Varaha and Yajna Varaha. The idol in Tirumala is that of Adi Varaha.
The temple is located facing the Sri Venkateswara Temple, on the banks of Swami Pushkarini.

As per legend, after saving the Earth from the demon Hiranyaksha, Vishnu's boar avatar Varaha stayed on this hill on the northern bank of Swami Pushkarini. Hence Tirumala Hills is also referred to as Adivarahakshetra.[2] In the beginning of the present aeon Kali Yuga, Varaha donated land to another form of Vishnu - Venkateswara on his request. As a gratitude, Venkateswara offered first bell, puja and Naivedyam (food offering) to Varaha before they were offered to him. This is being followed as a tradition even today.[4]
Devotees are prescribed to have darshan ("sight") of Varaha before Venkateswara. It is believed that pilgrimage to Tirupati will not be complete without having darshan of Varaha.[4][1]

If you are visiting Tirumala, make it a point to visit the Papavinasanam Dam located near Papavinasanam waterfall at a stone's throw distance from the main temple. Taking a dip in the refreshing waters of the dam cleanses your body and enriches your soul. It is said that the water of Papavinasanam Dam comes directly from the feet of The Lord.

Whoever takes a dip in this holy water is cleansed of their sins or “paapa”. Hence the place is called papavinasanam. Papavinasanam Dam is a popular tourist destination due to its fascinating natural setting with dense forest and cascading waterfall.

The only Lord Shiva temple in Tirupati, Sri Kapileswara Swamy Temple is situated about 3 kilometres to the north of Tirupati, at the foot of the Tirumala Hills. The temple is the site of the sacred waterfall called Kapila Teertham also known as Alwar Teertham. The waterfall is a lovely sight, especially in the rainy season. The sub templee are Sri Venugopala Swamy Temple, Sri Lakshmi Narayana Swamy Temple and Sri Vinayaka Swamy Temple.
