Off late, ‘God’s own country’ has been in the news for all the right reasons. And one of them is their initiative to harness tourism through channelizing their vast coastline.
How?
This is how!
Introducing not just aquatic activities but also the concept of floating bridges that would provide tourists with an extra layer of excitement and thrill!
Perfect for aquatic activities, Kerala’s shoreline has so far not been tapped for touristy attractions, but that’s going to change as Kerala Public Works and Tourism Minister Riyas is taking special interest in enhancing beach tourism across Kerala by integrating activities that lure tourists.
Located at Varkala Papanasam, this is where Thiruvananthapuram’s first floating bridge was inaugurated and marks the steppingstone to realizing a vision of inaugurating several more across the state.
The bridge in Kerala spans a length of one hundred meters and is three meters wide, flanked by supports on each side. As per the release, there is a spacious platform, measuring 11 meters in length and 7 meters in width, located at the bridge's end, allowing guests to enjoy panoramic views of the sea.
Constructed with 1,400 high-density floating polyethylene blocks and supported by 700 kg of anchors, the bridge is equipped with safety features such as lifeguards, safety boats, life jackets and even local fishermen. It ensures the security of those crossing the bridge and indulging in the ocean waves.
With a capacity to accommodate one hundred or more individuals simultaneously, the floating bridge operates from 11 am to 5 pm, providing a unique experience for visitors to traverse the waves of the ocean.
Water Sports Available at The Beach
• Banana boat rides
• Jet skiing
• Speed boating
• Jet attacks
• ATV rides.
Entry Fee: INR 120 for 20 minutes on the floating bridge.
With development comes added responsibility to uphold the sanctity of the beaches where states are more inclined to attract tourists, and this stands true for Kerala too. Hopefully developing these beaches for tourists will not be a bane to the local life and landscape as much as it will be a boon to the local economy.
Travel safe and travel responsibly!
