We (my husband and me) decided to visit Kuala Lumpur and Thailand together, where we first went to Kuala Lumpur and then moved to Phuket, Thailand.
We arrived in Kuala Lumpur at 7 am in the morning and took a bus from KL International Airport (KLIA) till KL Sentral city (last stop of this airport connecting bus). Keeping our travel pocket friendly we took another bus from KL Sentral to our hotel located in China Town area of Kuala Lumpur. One can also opt airport metro but that is as expensive as hiring a cab.
As the check-in at the hotel was at 2 pm and we reached there at 9 am, so we kept our luggage at the hotel and went to explore city. We walked through Jalan Petaling street in China Town for about 1.5 kms, to reach Medreka Square. We came back to our hotel at 1pm after enjoying Medreka Square, Historical district and KL City Gallery.
Around 2pm, we started for Petronas Tower. We boarded metro from Pasar Seni till KLCC (nearest metro for Petronas). From Petronas to KL Tower we boarded a bus, which is free of cost.
After enjoying these awe struck creations we called it a day and went back to our hotel via metro.
Places visited on day 1:
Medreka square
Historical district
KL City Gallery
Petronas twin towers
KL Tower and Park
All these places are well connected with city train, which is quite affordable. Tickets for Patronas and KL towers were pre purchased from Klook which helped to further save the money.
Started our day early, we went to Batu caves via KTM Komuter which took half an hour to reach Batu caves from Pasar seni. Around 11 am we came back to Pasar Seni and from there book a too and fro cab to Thean hau temple because of unavailability of other public transportation. Later, we visited Central market and China Town to shop and hop and relished some good local food.
Places visited on day 2:
Batu caves
Thean hau temple
Central market
China Town
We took flight from KLIA to Phuket international airport. Got Visa on arrival at Phuket international airport which was free of cost and hence saved 9k in total. Booked shared taxi from Phuket airport to our hotel situated in Patong area near Patong beach. Rest of the evening was spent on Patong beach.
On day 4 we went to Phi Phi island tour which we booked through click2go where I found a great deal at a great price. Our driver picked us from hotel lobby at 7 am in the morning and we reached harbour at around 9 am to board ferry to Phi Phi islands. The tour ended at 6 pm and later the evening was spent on Bangla street.
On 3rd day in Phuket, we hired a motor bike and explored rest of the Phuket.
Places visited on day 5:
Surin Beach
Kata beach
Big Budha
Karon view point
Promthep cape sunset view
Took shared taxi from Phuket to Krabi. It was a long journey so we decided to end it with a much needed massage. Also we explored the market of Aonang area where we found cute restaurants serving live wood fire pizza.
This day was spent on Aonang beach and Railey beach.
We took shared long tail boat from Aonang beach, which took about 15 minutes to reach Railey beach. The boat service is operational from 9 am to 6 pm between Aonang beach and Railey beach.
Places visited on day 7:
Aonang Beach
Railey Beach
We started at 4 am in the morning. Took flight from Krabi international airport to Don Mueang international airport, Bangkok. From Don Mueang international airport we took a bus to Bangkok bus terminal and from here took bus to reach Pattaya. The over all journey was of 8 hours and reached Pattaya by 12 pm. After lunch we booked a tour to Coral island where we enjoyed parasailing and snorkeling and relaxed on the beach. Rest of the evening was spent on Bangla street and market.
Places visited on day 8:
Pattaya beach
Coral island
Pattaya market near beach area
Bangla street
Hiring a scooty for this day was the best idea. It was cheap and helped to save time as well. This day was planned to visit several iconic, state of an art places; and the tickets of these places were purchased from Klook.
Places visited on day 9:
Art in paradise
Under water world
Floating market
Alcazar cabret
We visited Pattaya City sign view point and Wat Phra Hai temple in the morning via motor bike and then around at 11 am took bus from Pattaya bus terminal to Bangkok.
Later in the evening we explored Chatu Chak weekend market in Bangkok.
One of the reasons to we had planned to visit Bangkok in the later part of our travel was to explore the famous Chatu Chak weekend market. Obviously we (read as I) shopped a lot!
The last day of the itinerary was exploring Bangkok and commuted through public transport.
Places visited in Bangkok:
Grand palace
Wat Traimit
Wat Phi
Wat Arun
MBK mall and Sian Discovery mall
Had dinner and left for airport by 11 pm with lots of memories in the ❤️
Note: The key to our budget travel was booking flights in advance (3-4 months prior to travel), using websites like Klook to purchase tickets, not opting for lavish hotels, using public transportation, and eventually travelling light (we had only cabin luggage).
