After a day of relaxation in Bangkok, my friend and I headed to Ayutthaya, often compared with Ankar Wat of Cambodia. A slow train took us to this beautiful small town. You can cycle around enjoying the surrounding and the beauty of the temples. The locals always ready to help, enjoying your site as much as you their's. The temples were beautiful, some really well maintained and others needing attention. You can see Ayutthaya in a day, take the first train in and the last train out.
From Bangkok, we headed to Ko Samui. We took a flight to Surat Thani and then a boat to this Island. I had heard a lot about the Island and its beautiful beaches. Like most islands of Thailand this was also very touristy. One way of exploring the island was biking around. We drove from one beach to another, enjoying the lunch at one and swimming at another. The beaches were nice but most were touristy. After two days of exploring the Island we headed to Koh Tao.
Koh Tao is a very small Island and is a must if you want to Scuba Dive. We went for a few dives. They were nice and the experience beautiful. The Island had quite a few nice cafes and pubs to chill out. The beaches were lovely, and you could swim for hours in the warm water of the sea.
Our next stop was Phuket. The city was very touristy and the beaches over crowded, but if you wanna party than may be you would love the place.
A day in Phuket, we headed to Phi Phi Island. A small Island converted into a resort. There is no transportation on the Island, but you can always walk across the Island. If you want a little adventure take the rough path or else there is always a well maintained road through the Island. The beaches were nice and the locals lovely. At night the entire Island turned into a party place. One part of the Island had parties on the beach with fire works and shows. The other parts more sober with pubs and light music. You could always buy some cheap beer from 7/11 and sit on the side walk to enjoy the free music.
From Phi Phi we headed to Railay, its a similar Island but much smaller and less crowded. I liked how the Island offered the best combination of nature and fun. You could go for rock climbing or scuba diving. There were natural caves surrounding the Island, and beautiful view of the mountains while floating in the sea. Railay East has Mangroves, but they have their own beauty. When the water increases they look like lost souls in the sea, but when the water resides, they seem to hide a lot many secrets. I loved Railay East, it was less touristy and more natural.
I liked Thailand for the simple and friendly people they have. I felt safe and relaxed. I liked how they have tuned themselves to tourism, but still continue with their own way of life. Thailand is not cheap clothes and sex, they have much more to offer if only one looks for it.
