“The sky speaks in thousand colors” during a sunset.
I think there will not be any human on earth who doesn’t stop for a moment to watch a colorful sunset. Most of the travelers around the world are willful sunset chasers. I see lots of Instagram(mers), travelers, Facebook users and movies capturing the beauty of a picturesque sunset. It is of course, nature’s bounty that makes all of us to connect with.
Though every sunset is similar as per science yet, it creates or brings about different effects and emotions in everybody’s life.
“The sky, at sunset, looked like a carnivorous flower.” ― Roberto Bolaño
Some feel that sunset is a symbol of love and hope, while others feel it is symbol of life and death. On one hand, it is a perfect treat for photography enthusiast, on the other, it might be a source of intoxication for nature lovers. To sum up, Sunset is not symbolic of any one thing or emotion but, it symbolizes different things for different people. Some of these symbols are:
Peace/Rest
Inspiration
Hope (Life or Death)
Divinity
Wonder/Rumination/Reminiscence
1. PEACE/REST
Sunset is the time when everything seems to stand still for that moment; birds fly back to their nests, tired souls wrap their work, gay children hug their mothers tight, even trees are also lulled by the silence during sunset. The serenity is so prominent that it looks as if nature is trying to whisper about the unknowns of the Earth to the knowns.
Sunset is that bewitching beauty that brings peace among the living hearts.
2. INSPIRATION
People live thousand lives in that one moment and rejuvenate themselves. Sunset seems so magical that a few cherish their old lost love, while others express their new found love. This reminds me of the song from the movie Barfi “Usse mukammal kar bhi aao, wo jo adhoori si baat baki hai…” It inspires many hearts to love again, to dream again and to live again. One can have either a complete me time with nature or a romantic date!
“Sunsets are proof that endings can be beautiful too.”
3.HOPE (LIFE OR DEATH)
“Every sunset brings the promise of new dawn.” – Ralf Waldo Emerson
As sunset adds variety of colors to the sky, similarly it gives a number of hopes to the depressed souls. It symbolizes both life and death in one moment. It not only gives us new hope for a new day but, makes us realize that every journey has an end.
Hope to face the new day and hope to end our journey on a positive note.
4.DIVINITY
“To watch a sunset is to connect with the Divine.”- Gina De Gorna
Many souls feel that sunsets invoke the divinity within them. They also believe that every bit of the sun setting down is a manifestation of the Supreme and, witnessing one becomes a sure gateway to the heavens on Earth. (I personally felt once while I was on the top of Triund hill)
Sunset triggers all the senses of a human simultaneously, which makes him/her closer to the Divine.
5. WONDER/RUMINATION/REMINISCENCE
Many of us who might witness sunset for the first time, will be full of awe to see this absolute beauty. The moment is so magical that one can have a life-changing experience. Some are happy to recall the memories, while others delve deep into their thoughts.
Sunset brings in different memories for the people who witness it.
To sum up, I would like to tell all, that, if you ever observe in the late evening, (around 5 or 6 pm) the sky is full of golden rays and there are bright colors that stretch all across the sky, then stop for the moment and hunt for the sun. It might be setting in somewhere down the horizon. Live that moment and feel it. I betcha! Nothing can be as surreal as a sunset.
To quote Naina from the movie Yeh Jawaani hai Deewani, when she says to Bunny “agar hum chale gye to ye solid sunset miss of jaega and it is obvious to miss out some things in life; hence it is better to enjoy the moment we have in life” or Seize the day, my friend!
