New Zealand, is a paradise for people looking out for adventure and spending time being one with nature. The sparkling waters of the Pacific makes you want to dive and swim and splash. I visited various islands in the outskirts of Auckland city namely Rotoroa Island, Wahike Island, Devonport and Tiri titi Mitangi. These places take you the closest to nature you can ever imagine!! Now let me brief you about these places one by one.

This is the best backpackers one can get if you need to make friends to travel with and free breakfast!! They also give you free coupons for each day to spend in a restaurant or night club!!

Rotoroa Island as the legend goes was once a rehabilitation centre for alcohol addicts. Well, as of now, in cooperation with the New Zealand Zoo, it has been turned into a wildlife breeding and trekking place. Once you get there, you cannot refrain yourself from the mesmerizing beauty of nature! The treks are phenomenal and the scenery you discover while climbing the south and the north tower peaks of the island will take away all your tiredness and will push you to go for more.

Devonport is another island which can be reached in 12 minutes via ferry from Auckland Central. Victoria hill on Devonport sports is one of the oldest forts found in New Zealand. The lanes in the fort are quite narrow and spooky. People say that the air inside the fort is chilly because of the souls of ancient warriors that still haunt the place. Nevertheless, this hill is one of the best places to experience the beauty of the setting sun in this land of fire (Acronym given to New Zealand because of the numerous volcanoes the country has!! As a matter of fact, Hill Victoria is also an extinct volcano!!). The 360 degree view you get from the top makes you want to live here. FOREVER!!

Wahike Island is famous for bike riding (cycling in common terms). You can hire a bike from Auckland itself, take it to Wahike with you on a ferry and prepare yourself for an adventurous ride!! I covered the entire bike route and also got a chance to meet professionals from France who were on a biking trip!! The ride is indeed tiring but the adrenalin rush makes it a must do!! Again New Zealand will amaze you with breath taking scenery and beautiful beaches during the entire bike trip. The cycle track is on a mountainous terrain, so be prepared for some thumping in the heart and loss of breath at times!!
