About Property
Set high in the hills of Kodaikanal, The Tamara is located 2,000 meters (6,500 ft) above sea level. Dating back to the 1840s, the building was originally called Baynes Bungalow as it was owned by British District Judge, Mr. Baynes.
The building was later renovated and fitted with modern facilities like two restaurants, indoor heating, a fitness centre, a ballroom, boardroom and conference facilities, and a spa.
The 53 suites are elegantly styled with wooden flooring and colonial interiors. The property also has a crèche where you can drop your munchkin and explore the surroundings freely.
Food
The resort has an all-day dining restaurant- La Providence and a French style vintage resto-bar, Bistro 1845. The restaurant serves up European, Asian and Indian cuisine. The Levinge Lounge in the resort features a 40ft temperature-controlled pool and a bar. This is the best place to sip on a cocktail while beholding the view of the valley.
Getting There
By air: Madurai is the nearest airport to Kodaikanal about 120 kilometres away. Trichy airport (150 kilometres) and the Coimbatore airport (175 kilometres) two other options. From the airport, you can easily get a bus to Kodaikanal.
By road: Kodaikanal is well-connected to major cities including Chennai, Coimbatore, Pondicherry, Madurai and many more.
