Thanks, to Tamilnadu state tourism for building such a great stretch of 25 kms from Rameshwaram to Dhanushkodi (20 kms) and RamSetu (5 Kms).
Dhanushkodi is titled as ghost town of India in many articles, because of it's related stories.
After visiting the place one can say the title doesn't suit it, as it's can't be compared to real ghost town like Bhangarh (if you been there), the most haunted place in India.
So, in my memories I had given some suitable title ABANDONED town.
While many of us might not heard about this town due to it's less commercialization (Thanks to that) OR specific to it's geographic location 20 Kms away from Rameshwaram (holiest place to Hindus, under one of Char Dham). It's not connected by any luxurious means like airport or train, but can be reached by road.
Mountain-valley combination on both side of road while driving is too common, here one can experience sea-sea combination on both side of road over this 25 kms stretch over Pamban island.
The beautiful island is connected via Pamban rail bridge and road bridge.
This ruined village was earlier a well developed town with it's own railway station, electricity and human beings well settled here. But now no one stays here, only few temporary houses and tender coconut shops for tourist visiting the place.
Dhanushkodi is nature's blessing until it's not commercialized. Unfortunately the work is already in progress to mark this place over tourism map of India, laying of rail road already started to connect this abandoned town to Rameshwaram and rest of India.
In other words, it's one side good news to facilitate the town and promote it for tourism. But equally afraid of that it will lost it's charm and history.
Few things to Note:
1. Dhanushkodi entry closes by 5 pm everyday, so plan accordingly
2. Public transport available till Ram Setu and Dhanushkodi is in between
3. Recommended to explore in evening and enjoy the calm sea and cloudy sky (mostly everyday).
4. No mobile n/w will help you to stay connected with history of this village.
